I just had to do some lookup after viewing a clip on YouTube by Marjorie Taylor Greene. She was in the Permian basin of Texas, the largest reserve of petroleum in the US. She was right that Donald Trump and the oil companies are screwing the consumers, but she left out an important fact: You pump a finite amount of fossil liquid formed hundred of milions of years ago out of the ground and eventual it runs out. Shale oil in this reserve and two others in the western US have fueled our recent oil boom. They are in rapid decline. That in part explains Trump and his oligarch cronies' panicky move to steal oil where ever it exists, by hook or crook, kidnapping a president and starting a regional war. Their is no other developed power source than oil that is so amenable to our industrial society. Petroleum powers our country and the mechanical workings of empire, but it has also powered the individual for profit economy that has made a few extraordinarily rich. Addicts need their fix by any means. The end of peak oil is going to be hard on us all, but it is life or death for the Epstien class. And that may be a sign we are headed for a more egalitarian future and there will be a sigh of relief from all the other creatures on this planet.

The fall colors at Kubota Garden are starting to peak.
I made three trips there this month. Each time, the maples had a little more color — reds, oranges, and golds filling in around the ponds and paths. The old twisted maple I kept returning to still isn't at full color, but the garden around it is close.
