The Uni of Cambridge sent me a redacted Philanthropic Grant Agreement for the Lisa Yang $34.5m donation. (An internal review confirmed the redactions.) $10m of which are for 'research projects [that] will be determined at the discretion of ARC's director', i.e. Simon Baron-Cohen. That such a large donation does not require input or control by Autistic folks over the determination of the research projects is not encouraging.

Zerika is learning how to become a better person now, not just a skilled "huntress" (AKA a monster killer for hire). Every single day she’s changing and softening a little more, but all in a good way. She’s growing into a woman with friends, with a found family, a home, and finding her very own happiness. Zerika and Grigga. While Grigga *has* been a shield-maiden and warrior in her lifetime, killing monsters (like Zerika does) is another story entirely. On the other hand, Zerika would never survive as an innkeeper, either. She's such an introvert. She isn't very good with strangers. She does her best, though. Ergo, she would struggle so much with the job. And taking care of Grigga's family as well, which is another good point. That woman (an orc) has five children who are all rowdy, lovely, and crazy. Zerika wouldn't be able to handle her pack of children.

Making friends. It's both rational and irrational at the same time. People have stabbed her in the back far too many times, and it's left her scarred, battered, and bruised.
(Somehow, this never happened with Elric, though. She was never afraid of a possible friendship. She might have been unwilling to accept his kindness, was bashful as well, but she eventually relented.)

It actually is. I devour fantasy tales with the same ferocity and love as when I write them. And it’s also my favorite genre of games to play, or a film and series genre to watch. I’m easy. But I will add that I really do love all genres, especially when you add a bit of romance. I’m not picky.

Damir cares about his friends, even if he never says the words aloud. Rather, he shows it, instead. As for everyone else around him, he couldn’t give less of a shit. He usually seems emotionless, unfazed, and cold to most. People assume this of necromancers. Some, meaning the special individuals and the sort who genuinely care about others, they can see the heart inside of him, the one he keeps hidden away. Damir does feel. He feels deeply.

#PhantastikPrompts 10/3: Have you read a novel (not a non-fiction book) from which you learned something new about writing? Which one is it and what have you learned?
Random, maybe, but I'll give this example: I learned how to write OCD and intrusive thoughts in a way that reflects both the supernatural and how to address the topic in the early 1900s from Kaylie Smith's Phantasma. It's Book 1 of the Wicked Games Series. She's also a friend of mine. And to be honest, it helped me to understand my OCD better as well, including unwanted, recurring, and intrusive thoughts, which was the biggest takeaway of all.

#ScribesAndMakers 10/3: Is there a common thread throughout your creative work?
Yes, I enjoy and write many different genres, and I might also be a romance author as well, but nothing comes without healing from trauma, recovering from the strife of life's struggles, and we'll always have strong female characters who can stand on their own (which everyone is or becomes well aware of). And of course, there will forever be "found family" dynamics sprinkled on top. Those things remain the same throughout my body of work. I'm proud of that. I don't just write generic, everyday romance. Instead, I write stories that feature romance, and there's a big difference.
Women, women, women, and the strength of them. And I do mean that in every single way it can possibly be taken. Emotional, mental, and physical. Give me happy endings with angst, struggle, and healing throughout. We need more of that in our world today.
