🗣️Mattia Mossano will present our #paper about a #usable #secure QR code scanner tomorrow at #CHI2026! To support users against QR code #phishing, Mattia Mossano, Maxime Veit, Tobias Länge, Benjamin Berens, Filipo Sharevski and Melanie Volkamer developed #SEQR, the Security Enhanced QR code scanner.
SEQR's design is based on systematic reviews of both academic works and the MITRE ATT&CK database, and it was evaluated with 556 online participants, achieving 93.35% correct answers. SEQR is available, open source, on GitHub.

Yesterday the German Pre-#CHI 2026 started at LMU Munich. The idea of the event is to provide an opportunity for #researchers from Germany and neighboring countries to present their accepted CHI 2026 papers and discuss them in a smaller circle. Tobias Hilt and Mattia Mossano will present the results of their papers "Why Johnny Checks but Doesn’t Alert: Reporting as the Missing Step in #Verifiable Internet #Voting" and "Development, Evaluation, and Implementation of SEQR – a #Usable #Secure QR code Scanner". The Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems (CHI 2026) will take place this year from April 13 to 17 in Barcelona, Spain. Registration for CHI is open and the program has already been published.

Sweden and Finland have #accessibility in their digital DNA.

Other countries are still in an early stage or apply it in an inconsistent way.

Are we designing with accessibility because law says so, or because we want #products #usable for all people?

  42. @mu This is one kind of reuse center that I found on the web. It's something a local library could sponsor. Also, there are places that do that with building materials (#HabitatForHumanity #ReStores).

    #CreativeReuse Centers Benefit #Communities & the #Planet

    By Maureen Wise
    Feb 14, 2024

    "What Is a #CreativeReuseCenter?

"A creative reuse center is a #CraftThriftStore and so much more. It’s a business or nonprofit organization that collects #usable materials, leftovers, or surplus creative supplies and redistributes them to the community for reuse. These organizations accept donations from individuals as well as manufacturers, industry partners, and businesses. Donations can be in the form of leftover craft supplies such as your craft stash. They may also include cabinet or flooring samples from a home renovation company or the end of a roll of vinyl from a sign manufacturer.

"Each center makes decisions differently and has different donors and #donations rules, but the ethos is consistent: They help people see the potential in useable waste as art. The creative possibilities of cast-off materials are limited only by the imagination of the artist. Creative reuse is all about #upcycling and #repurposing: elevating and #reusing an unwanted material or item into something entirely new with purposeful value."

  43. @markwyner @renchap @Gargron Cool idea! Make #UI #accessible & #usable for wide range of users. Contrast ratio is important.

  44. To keep an #interface #uncluttered and #usable, the Isaacs-Walendowski frequency-commonality grid suggests when to surface or bury functions.

    IF A FUNCTION IS USED…

OFTEN × MANY: make it visible.
    • Red wavy line shows a spelling error.

OFTEN × FEW: make it suggested, 1 click deep.
    • Replace misspelled with a correct word.

SELDOM × MANY: suggest it deeper, in context.
    • Add to custom dictionary.

    SELDOM × FEW: hide it.
    • Remove word from custom dictionary.

    Then test the #design.

  45. @governa Really? Science has shown that people don't remember listed items after the 5th. Knock it off. Also, if that tool requires that many tweaks to make it #usable, why didn't the creators make it usable in the first place? It's like giving people a thousand ways to make Windows usable...
