Yesterday the German Pre-#CHI 2026 started at LMU Munich. The idea of the event is to provide an opportunity for #researchers from Germany and neighboring countries to present their accepted CHI 2026 papers and discuss them in a smaller circle. Tobias Hilt and Mattia Mossano will present the results of their papers "Why Johnny Checks but Doesn’t Alert: Reporting as the Missing Step in #Verifiable Internet #Voting" and "Development, Evaluation, and Implementation of SEQR – a #Usable #Secure QR code Scanner". The Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems (CHI 2026) will take place this year from April 13 to 17 in Barcelona, Spain. Registration for CHI is open and the program has already been published.

I have been saying for a long time that #trust is not #verifiable, but verification of credentials requires much trust.

- what we actually verify in credentials

- what kind of trust credit we need in a verification

- why trust is not technical challenge

It's not sustainable long-term in a society that prizes science and technology to suppress facts and verifiability. Having the trains run on time for a decade or two seems great, but in a propagandist #totalitarian state, they can forget that #technology is an outgrowth of #science, where #verifiable facts are what we're looking for.

It's no accident that science grew up alongside #liberal thought.

My point here is that this is the situation all services etc. find themselves in until something radically new is "invented", and I think that until then, we still need to encourage the use of open standards that exist (such as #XMPP / #Jabber ), on our way towards more progress...

One such route towards that might be a #platform and #webservice for preconfigured, synchronizeable, #verifiable #opensource application environment #containers a la #docker, letting anyone run their own instance in a "cloned production environment".

But there is also the fact that not all services need "total #anonymity", and may benefit from such an #ITstrategy #solution way before it may become "fully #secure".

That portion of the target audience(s), may actually help funding key parts of the development.
