What a week! I arrived back home safe and sound after an amazing week at @chi 2026 in #Barcelona.
During the week, I reconnected with old friends and colleagues and met some incredible new people in the #CHI family 👥
Attending the workshop on Interactive #AI for Human-Centered #Robotics (#InterAI), I presented our work on Adaptive AI in #HRI. 🧠🤖
At #CHI2026, we organized a joint lunch with our @mucConf 2026 team, handing out first #MuC merchandise 🙂
Happy to be part of the #CHI2027 crew 💛

Yesterday Mattia Mossano presented his paper "Development, Evaluation, and Implementation of SEQR – a #Usable #Secure QR code Scanner" at #CHI2026 Thank you to all that attended the talk! #GraduateSchool @kastel

Your semi-regular reminder that I'm collecting weird #hci papers at https://floe.butterbrot.org/matrix/rants/weird/.
Found a nice new one from #chi2026 ("Outfoxed") via @nbhansen, keep the weirdness coming - suggestions always welcome! 😁 (still missing something for 2024/25, BTW)

Greetings from #CHI2026 which started today in Barcelona. Tobias Hilt, Mattia Massano and Christian Mack join this year to represent SECUSO. Tomorrow Tobias Hilt and Mattia Mossano will present their papers "Why Johnny Checks but Doesn’t Alert: Reporting as the Missing Step in Verifiable Internet Voting" and "Development, Evaluation, and Implementation of SEQR – a #Usable #Secure QR code Scanner". #CHI @kastel @kitcybersec

🗣️Mattia Mossano will present our #paper about a #usable #secure QR code scanner tomorrow at #CHI2026! To support users against QR code #phishing, Mattia Mossano, Maxime Veit, Tobias Länge, Benjamin Berens, Filipo Sharevski and Melanie Volkamer developed #SEQR, the Security Enhanced QR code scanner.
SEQR's design is based on systematic reviews of both academic works and the MITRE ATT&CK database, and it was evaluated with 556 online participants, achieving 93.35% correct answers. SEQR is available, open source, on GitHub.

The CHI Papers Explorer is back for #CHI2026! As every year, you can explore all 2,769 papers and events with semantic search.
Search by any topic using similarity (not just keywords), browse paper clusters, and build your personal schedule with the MyPapers feature.
If you find it useful, please boost so others heading to Barcelona can find it too.

We meet after the last session on the Tuesday outside P1-Room 131 at 6.10 pm in your jogging gear (this is the room where the SportsHCI Meet-Up will be from 4.30-6, so please also come along to that). You might have to change in the restrooms there. We will have a volunteer looking after our bags. We'll then go for a casual jog together, maybe around 30 min depending on how everyone feels. All speeds are catered for. Rain or shine.

We are organizing "Jogging at CHI" in Barcelona again, where we will be jogging around the conference venue to discuss all things SportsHCI while getting some exercise. This is not an official CHI event.
If you want to register (really lightweight) so we can keep you informed, please use this form:

We congratulate Judith Kankam-Boateng and her co-supervisor Peter Mayer, #SECUSO, for the #CHI2026 #paper titled "`It's Confusing, Insecure, and Messy'' -- Mapping the Gaps Between Stakeholders' Cybersecurity Mental Models in the Danish #Economy". The paper investigates #cybersecurity mental models held by three stakeholder groups in Denmark's defence sector and how these mental models influence regulatory processes. The authors conducted focus group interviews with policymakers, #industry associations, and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), finding that SMEs often treat cybersecurity as a compliance task, while policymakers assume strategic readiness. As a result, the paper provides recommendations for aligning #governance frameworks with organisational realities.

The #paper "From Fear to Control: Developing a Three-Factor Scale for Cybersecurity Anxiety (CybAS)" by Nikolaj Dall, Hanno Gustav Hagge, Peter Mayer (SECUSO) and Cori Faklaris was accepted at #CHI2026. The authors developed a 15-item psychometric instrument, the #Cybersecurity Hashtag#Anxiety Scale (CybAS), to measure anxiety specifically in the cybersecurity context. CybAS measures three concepts: current concerns, anticipated threats, and perceived control over outcomes. Analyses confirm strong #reliability and #validity, and the concise format makes CybAS suitable for both #research and applied settings.

📝 Our new paper officially coming out at #chi2026: we hope to help people think about systems like #CommunityNotes, the design choices they make, and the normative implications of relying on them to moderate our information ecosystem. 📝

Four #SECUSO papers have been selected for presentation at the #Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems (#CHI2026). CHI is the most important international conference in the field of human-computer interaction and a #publication at CHI is a special highlight for the researchers. CHI 2026 will take place April 13 to 17 in Barcelona, Spain: https://chi2026.acm.org/

How do we design cybersecurity that cares about a specific user? We have two new papers coming in early 2026:
🔹 CybAS: A 3-factor scale (Present, Future, Control) to measure the psychological burden of digital threats. Conditionally accepted for #CHI2026 in Barcelona. 🔹 Digital Safety for Migrants: A participatory design study to create AI-enabled advice interfaces with international students from the Global South. Accepted at #USEC2026.
