  35. Qualified, not qualified… I have to chuckle at this.

    A recruiter contacted me today about a Senior Telecommunications Analyst position. I am so qualified for this position that I’m a top 1 percenter.

    1) Director of National System Development for a cellular carrier.
    2) Worked directly with call centers and answering services – design, budgeting, purchasing, installation, maintenance – for 14 years, and tangentially for several more years.
    3) I have 20+ years of experience managing telecom circuits and contracts, regionally and nationally.
    4) Same number of years of experience designing telecom architecture to meet business needs.
    5) Designed and taught college courses in VoIP and SIP systems.
    6) Assisted public utilities with the design and installation of VoIP systems, including wireless VoIP.
    7) Responsible for multi-million dollar telecommunications budgets, in budget every year, and always received 100 percent of my performance bonus.

    And yet – AND YET!

    I took a look at the job description, and I technically don’t meet the requirements listed because of the way the job description is worded.

    So… if I clicked on “Apply Now” and filled out the standard application for this job, I would be disqualified.

    The hiring system is broken.
