Here's an app from #secuso that makes a backup of the data from their apps. Why can't anyone develop a similar tool that would backup the data from #FOSS health apps and then take it a step more and transform that data into an #openmhealth schema? Can someone help me to understand why this is not feasible? Many of the #floss health apps already have mechanisms for backing up the data, this could just extend that.

🐰 SECUSO Wishes You a Happy Easter! 🐣
This year, the Easter Bunny paid #SECUSO a visit and left behind eggs for us to paint—the creative results of our painting activity now adorn our hallway. In addition to traditional designs, we’ve also incorporated our research into our Easter decorations.
💪 After Easter, we’ll be kicking off the summer #semester. This semester, SECUSO will be offering the Applied Computer#Science – #Cybersecurity lecture for the Bachelor’s program as well as the #Security, #Usability, Society lab course (Bachelor’s and Master’s) and will be represented in the Economy and Hashtag#Technology team project. Additionally, some of us will present their work at the #Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems (#CHI) in Barcelona the week after Easter. But first, we wish everyone a Happy Easter! -

We congratulate Judith Kankam-Boateng and her co-supervisor Peter Mayer, #SECUSO, for the #CHI2026 #paper titled "`It's Confusing, Insecure, and Messy'' -- Mapping the Gaps Between Stakeholders' Cybersecurity Mental Models in the Danish #Economy". The paper investigates #cybersecurity mental models held by three stakeholder groups in Denmark's defence sector and how these mental models influence regulatory processes. The authors conducted focus group interviews with policymakers, #industry associations, and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), finding that SMEs often treat cybersecurity as a compliance task, while policymakers assume strategic readiness. As a result, the paper provides recommendations for aligning #governance frameworks with organisational realities.

In 2025, #SECUSO was part of the evaluation of the Helmholtz Topic Engineering Secure Systems. Part of the evaluation was also the #research of the research group Human and Societal Factors under the leadership of SECUSO. This also includes the development of the #NoPhish concept with various measures and their evaluation in studies.
For the Helmholtz evaluation, a short video was also created in which Dr. Benjamin Berens briefly explains the concept and the research behind it. In addition, it is discussed what #influence the measures currently have on society, e.g. over 30,000 views on the videos on Youtube or over 70 organizations that use or recommend the measures.

The year 2025 brought #SECUSO many new things: In addition to four new employees and numerous new student assistants who joined our team in 2025, we also expanded our societal #outreach with the citizens' panel “Wir forschen Digital”. Since November 1, citizens from Karlsruhe are able to register for participation in #research studies. Two major events have dominated most of the year: Until May, we prepared the evaluation of the Topic Engineering Secure Systems as coordinator of the Human and Societal Factors research group. In October, we helped organize the International Conference on Electronic Voting, followed by the Dagstuhl Seminar on “#Trustworthy Evidence-Based Elections”. We were also active in the area of research and #teaching: a total of 24 scientific #publications, in particular on the topics of #security notifications and #Phishing were published this year and we supervised a total of nine theses on various topics. As always, we have summarized our year here: https://secuso.aifb.kit.edu/downloads/Final_KIT-AIFB-Flyer_Weihnachten_2025-12.pdf

Dr. Benjamin Berens, #SECUSO, has begun his visit at ETH Zürich. He will be working with the “Security, Privacy & Society” research group led by Prof. Verena Zimmermann. Between 3 November and 19 December, in addition to Prof. Zimmermann and her team, he will also meet other #researchers at ETH Zürich who focus on #security and #privacy or human #behavior #research in general. During the research visit Dr. Berens, Prof. Zimmermann and Lorin Schöni want to work on their latest project on synthesizing findings across the field of #phishing research. Their work focuses on aggregating results from a #diverse range of studies.
