Updating npm via nvm while keeping your global packages
💡 --reinstall-packages-from=default
Don't forget to update Node and your global packages regularly!
How are you doing this? Using topgrade?
Are there smart ways to automate it? -
If I tried Topgrade <https://github.com/topgrade-rs/topgrade> to update my system I liked it from the beginning!
I put it into a cronjob. To stay informed when an update starts or ends I wrote a wrapper using notify-send. The notification window stays until confirmation on exitcode <> 0.

I started to use #topgrade for updating all my packages on my machine. Definitely didn't capture all of packages before. 😅
Honestly, don't know why I never thought of using some tool like this. I already have too many sources to count. 🫠

...oh god what day is this? I know I didn't post yesterday...but it's been like a two day gap? That's pretty good indicator, right?
day 7 i think?
anyway, i'm going to be a bit lazier as the trip goes... but i'll try to keep relevant updates.
The only real not worthy thing... as calls don't work (don't call it a #bug, call it a #feature), I did get suspend locked up because the phone swore it was in a non existing call. So I had to reboot.. only the second maybe third reboot of the trip. Otherwise... ish is fine. It's real hard not running #topgrade tho~
Do I wish I had app equivalents to ride sharing and food ordering? Absolutely... but as someone that cannot dev.. I can only try to fund ish... So I refuse to complain about it. And to be honest I could try Android Translation Layer, but that feels like that's missing the point, and the web sites mostly work... #uber is a pita tho.

Pourquoi est-ce que je me suis embêtée à faire du bash pour mettre à jour tous les types de paquets de mon laptop (apt, flatpak et brew) alors que topgrade existe ?

3. Actively maintain your devices
1] Package managers are no longer the only source of software for systems. Look into a one-stop upgrading tool like Topgrade that takes care of this, and also handles, e.g., updates of #Flatpak applications.
2] Use unattended / automatic upgrades on #Linux distributions that have a non-rolling release model. Restrict them to security upgrades, only: You want your devices to stay secure, but reduce the risk of things breaking while you are not available for resolving any issues. @fedora has listed the pros and cons of unattended upgrades.
You can find helpful howtos on the web for many distros:
Debian, Fedora, Linux Mint, openSUSE, Ubuntu, …If you can’t find one, as a last resort, look up the parent distribution of yours and continue your search there.
3] Finally, collect notes how you resolved maintenance issues. Include research results, like helpful links. Copy & paste the history of terminal commands used in the process. Integrate these into your regular note-taking system. Don’t lose the knowledge you have acquired.
