Whatnot Wednesday: #CFFC Color Blue
Wednesday, June 24, 2026
Hello, everyone. I expect that I’m not the only one having trouble getting over this midweek hump. Dan Antion gave us the Crayola Crayons color blue for “Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge” (CFFC). I could also do the “One-line Wednesday” thing and use the titular question of the song below, “Am I Blue?” Because I’m still blue about the personal disaster from last week. I could also let that one-liner be “BEWARE ONEDRIVE”. Enough said. I’m trying hard to put it all behind me.
Video below from The Cher Show 1975, she sings “Am I Blue”
The Scoobies are snoozing during this 105°F day, so they aren’t taking us on a color quest for blue things around the house… besides me that is. I’ve been very surprised by how little true blue there is in this house. There’s lots of aqua, teal, and turquoise, but I don’t call those blue. One of my book covers came to mind though — Murder at the Bijou.
Young Lucille BallA very young Lucille Ball was the spitting image of how I imagined Paisley Idelle Peabody — aka Pip, the heroine of this little 1920s series. It’s cozy. It’s a culinary mystery. It’s almost obscenely wholesome (yeah, that’s a weird choice of words, but I like it). It’s lighthearted fun during these heavy days.
Here’s a little bit from the beginning of the book. This is the setup: There’s a big movie premier in Savannah, Georgia. Pip is helping a friend who owns the local Chinese restaurant cater the event. And then…
Young Lucille BallPosters of a swooning woman in the embrace of a shocked but dashing man decorated the Bijou’s entrance. A little girl looked quietly at a poster of the monster clam. Then she suddenly shrieked, pulled away from the woman who held her hand, and ran. “Flannery! Come back! Wait,” the woman called and ran after the child.
The music began inside the theatre and everyone cheered. I heard muffled dialogue, but I couldn’t make out the words. I started helping Mrs. Wong and her son cleanup from the shindig that was before the film, and gathered Granny’s empty cookie containers. Then I jumped when I heard loud screaming emanate from the Bijou.
“Wow! That must be some scary movie!” Alastair Wong commented. Then a woman and a man ran from the theatre. The Wongs and I looked at one another, puzzled. Something was clearly wrong. As I walked toward the entrance, I saw the door to the ticket booth was open. I noticed a flashlight and picked it up, as I hurried toward the commotion. Inside the theatre the screen showed what appeared to be a fifty feet tall clam, with a hundred feet long… Applesauce, I didn’t know what to call it! Something like an elephant’s trunk was slowly attacking a building.
I switched on the flashlight. A small group of people were clustered below the stage. When I drew near I noticed a trail of green bits on the floor. Between the people, I saw a pair of wingtips with the soles facing me. The green bits were all over the bottoms of those shoes — and the feet that wore them weren’t moving.
I pushed my way into the circle. The man stretched out on the floor didn’t seem to be breathing. I took a mirror from my purse and held it under his nose. There was no fog from his breath. One of the people started calling for a doctor, but I was sure the man was already dead.
Soon a man with a medical bag, along with the theatre owner — Byron Binghamton, and a policeman pushed me out of the way. I stooped down and touched my fingers to the little green bits the dead man had tracked on his shoes. I shone the light on it and sniffed. Cilantro…

1) Eldest daughter arrived home from university for her Christmas break. Had her favorite dinner: chicken fried rice.
2) Ran a 5k followed by #swimming. All ready for my swim lessons tomorrow to show off my progress with bilateral breathing.

2) Ran a 5K this morning when the temp was 57F/14C. Temp is now 28F/-12C. Suppose to be in the low 20sF tomorrow morning. Brrr.
3) Washed the flannel bed sheets. Will be pulling them out of the dryer, making the bed, and then hopping in. Not many thing better than fresh, hot, flannel sheets on a cold night. ;-)

(1) ran 4 miles this morning. Probably should have taken it a bit easier. Usually do the pool after running on Tuesdays, but closed on Veterans Day. 😠
(2) carpet cleaned the basement in anticipation of entertaining during Thanksgiving. Wow - the carpet really needed it.
(3) took a nap. It is Veterans Day after all. ;-)

(1) Hit a new PR this morning in the University of Kansas #Veterans Day #5K. Happy with my time despite running the hills of campus in the cold, cold weather.
(2) Found my deviled egg recipe to serve as a #Thanksgiving #appetizer.
(3) Placed the angel on top of our newly installed #Christmas tree. It might be a bit early; I think Christmas cheer is what we need.

(1) Spent 20 minutes in the sauna after my morning swim. It was wonderful.
(2) Was able to process a number documents I had photographed on a visit to the Eisenhower Presidential Library back in 2022. Progress!
(3) Got my packet for my university veterans organization's 5K run this Sunday. Hoping for a PR of 27 minutes.

(1) Got my swim in after skipping Tuesday. My day is always better when I swim.
(2) Made baked ziti for dinner; our youngest's favorite.
(3) Was able to FaceTime with my oldest (away at college) and wish her a happy birthday. I remember the day she was born and it sure does not seem like it was that long ago. Time flies; kids grow up quick. Always enjoy the moment.

1. Saw a very old friend today and got a chance to remember how lucky and unlikely my journey has been these past two decades.
2. Shellie made kebabs. Yes you read that correctly. Here at home in the kitchen, she cooked up a slab of kebab in the oven and it was marvellous.
3. I've let go of the impossible challenge facing my current schedule. Just gonna come back to that in December and see if I can bring it in for a landing then. -

🎶 oh for a life on the rol-ling sea ...
Do anything exciting today? 🐟
We were out fishing/boating, depending if you call that *fishing*, every bite, they wrestled like a tuna, all 6 inch sardine size. Snacks for the cat. 3 full size.
#ThreeThings 😆
1-didn't drown
2-no shark attack
3-didn't need SAR

Three things today.
1. Still married to my favourite person in the world.
2. Lunch with a buddy who reminded me that even if I don't have boomer levels of retirement funds or several investment properties, at least there's some kind of pension in Australia and at the age of 70 you don't need much to live on anyway. As we enjoyed our $10 Thai lunch specials.
3. I was cold this arvo and it's sunny but 12°C outside and I took a nap on the couch as the central heating kicked in. We have a proper functional climate control system now and it's the first time in my life I've had such luxury and you better believe it's a marvellous way to live. It did take me a bit of effort to work out how to connect our HVAC to a new smart controller (which I bought for only $300) but now that's it's all setup I can pop onto my phone and dial in the temp I want and (not withstanding the absence of "flying cars") this is the future I dreamed of.

Shellie used up a few freezer ingredients for dinner tonight, and we enjoyed a delish "French Onion Shepherds Pie" and it was flavour city in our apartment :)
I also had a little Thai Iced Tea left over in the fridge so I'm sitting down to some TV, resting up my feet after their 10,000 steps today, and taking in what a lucky sod I am to be living this life right now.

Three things about Triumph's 1983 performance at the Us Festival:
1) Woz introducing them! 🍏
2) '80s rock 'n' roll kids, fashions, and dancing! 😎

Three things I learned today:
1) A Ziploc container of leftover sauerkraut, when dropped just so, will spray sauerkraut over an alarming area of the kitchen.2) A dog, evidently, doesn't like sauerkraut, probably a good thing for the overall air quality of the house.
3) Sauerkraut is hard to sweep up. -
@JennyMitcham @mickylindlar @sharonmcmeekin I don’t think there is one. On the Dead Bird Site some people seem to use #threethings, but this is generic enough lots of other kinds of posts use it too.

2) The dogs, evidently, don't like sauerkraut. Probably a good thing for the overall air quality of the house.
3) Sauerkraut is hard to sweep up. -
#today I am grateful:
1.) For working appliances.
2.) For the teachers who are staying.
3.) My warm kitchen and the loving family that comes through it all day. -

3. Pretty nail polishGratitude doesn't always have to be about big things.
