Wondering why Canadian egg prices have not risen like the USA?

"Amanda Brittain of B.C. Egg, which oversees egg farming in the province, says price increases have been much smaller than those in the U.S. due to Canada's supply management system.

"That means we produce just enough eggs to feed the people of Canada," she said. "Here in B.C., most of the eggs are farmed right in B.C., so we don't have large excesses of eggs."”

CNN spills some truth over how tariffs actually work for dairy between Canada and USA.

TLDR: The effective tariff rate for 99% of the stuff, is zero.

At our last Senate sitting, I rose to speak against Bill C-282, a protectionist private member's bill, sponsored by the Bloc, which would make supply management sacrosanct, and tie the hands of Canadian trade negotiators ahead of the CUSMA review. This bill could have dire consequences for Canadian exporters, and for Canada's international reputation as a champion of free trade. Here's my rant. For this week's issue of "Walls and Bridges", I focus on one major reason why the prices of #groceries in Canada are so damn high: #SupplyManagement, particularly in terms of #dairy, #eggs, and #poultry. And this system persists because all major political parties are all too eager to show their support for the dairy #cartel because they think to do otherwise would be "political suicide". I recommend the #Australian approach to ending supply management.
