Had an appointment with my #IBD #dietician today. In addition to a #nutrition supplement for #Sperri Control, she also wants me to take a 28mg gentle #iron supplement as my #ferritin levels went down in my last #blood test.
Some info she gave me on iron #supplements: you shouldn’t take your iron supplement with high #calcium foods like #dairy as apparently it can prevent absorption. In addition, #vitaminC is needed for absorption so either make sure the iron supplement also contains it or you are consuming foods high in vitamin C with the supplement such as #fruits and #veggies. I will likely be getting the #Jamieson brand #GentleIron as it has vitamin C as well as #B2, #B12 and #folate.
Other than that, things are looking good for my IBD. My last #colonoscopy showed #endoscopic #remission, all my blood test results are in range except my #A1C is slightly high and my ferritin is going low so hopefully the iron supplement will get that up. All the other nutrition blood tests they do at the lab like B12, Calcium, #sodium, #potassium and #VitaminD are all in range so that’s good. My #calprotectin test also came back below 20 so couldn’t even detect any #inflammation there anymore, and my first one was over 4000 so that’s a massive improvement along with my #CRP finally being in range. Safe to say a dramatic improvement in my IBD care since being diagnosed 2 years ago.
Now the main thing to focus on improving next: my #type1 #diabetes, which I have a follow-up with both my diabetes dietician as well as my #endocrinologist before the end of the year. Slowly trying to use an #insulin to #carb ratio there so I can eat more foods without my blood #sugar going high, though it’s tricky when you don’t have all the info especially at #restaurants where too many still don’t provide #carbohydrate counts.
