One of my favorite tablet games went all in on microtransactions, robbing me of my enjoyment of it. In looking for alternatives, I landed on #shapez. I'm really enjoying it, though as the shapes you need to make get more complex, it can make my brain hurt, especially trying to make things compact. I think I also need to look at what I can tear down as I've leveled and upgraded some machines. If you like factory games, you might like this one.

So I'm now trying to work out what combinations of these make sense to add to my library. Possibly a 3- or 4-way layering? Doubling up one side of a shape (i.e. keep the east side, and then duplicate that on the west side)? Can I fit a complete generic factory with all the logic it needs in a 3x3 platform? (Probably not).

@grifferz I've been accumulating a library of blueprints. Almost all of these are at the macro scale, and they're generally enacapsulating one function (e.g. layering), usually in a 1x1 platform.

Interestingly, almost all of my blueprint library is cutting. I've got one layering BP, one for painting, and about ten, so far, for slicing things (two halves, a single half, one corner, opposite corners, ¾ of the input, ...)

It's definitely exercising my incipient ADHD.

There's an interesting balance between the two scales. You have the micro-scale (within the platforms), which is like the original shapez game -- all about routing and layout. Then there's the macro-scale -- "platforms" of 14x14 squares (and combinations), plus giant conveyors and trains.

The interesting part is the interaction between these two. [more...]

Playing a bunch of #shapez while sick at home, and just unlocked the quad printer. It's the first programmable element; it can apply color separately to each quadrant of the output, controlled by a set of four wires.

However, I think its efficiency is pretty poor, as it consumes 4x paint for each shape. A previous unlock uses only 0.5x paint per shape (as long as you give it two inputs at a time, which is trivial.) White paint has to be assembled from red+green+blue which consumes a bunch of space, so it seems better to avoid using this unlock, and instead paint each piece separately, then cut and assemble. (But assembly tends to be slow... so I guess it might be a reasonable trade-off.)

Because the unit is programmable it might be feasible to paint the shape white first, then "mask" it and paint the red parts. Then it would only be inefficient in the relatively-cheap red paint, not the expensive white paint.

Got a conveyer built long enough that it takes five minutes for the "delivered" graph to catch up with the "produced" graph.

The #Shapez achievement is "I need trains" which yeah I can see that.

(played the Shapez2 demo yesterday and that had me itching for time with the old-school-but-finished version)

Next, I played #WordFactori, which originally saw the light of day as an entry for the #GMTKJam 2021 and is now fleshed out into a full game. If you like managing and optimizing supply chains in games like #shapez, #OpusMagnum or #Factorio, you’ll probably have your fair share of fun with this. That being said, the main gimmick (you’re crafting letters of the alphabet) doesn’t shake things up enough for me to warrant a recommendation over any of the aforementioned titles.
