On the (Mis)Use of Machine Learning with Panel Data https://arxiv.org/pdf/2411.09218
"Ignoring the cross-sectional & longitudinal structure can lead to hard-to-detect data leakage, inflated out-of-sample performance, & an inadvertent overestimation of the real-world usefulness and applicability of #ML models
…practical guidelines and best practices in #panelData environments, emphasizing the need to define ex ante the primary goal of the analysis"

How did academic stress related to the #pandemic affect university students’ satisfaction with life and optimism about the future? Andrea Bohman, Mikael Hjerm, Jeffrey Mitchell and I collected #paneldata to find out. Results, years in the making, are #openaccess and available at: https://doi.org/10.1080/21568235.2023.2209707 #highered #highereducation

(Interested in) Working with the random-intercept Cross-lagged Panel Model and unsure what sample size to use?
Jeroen Mulder fixed it for you:

#Introduction 👋
I do research at the intersection of #globalization and #development. #trade, #FDI, #growth. Very #macro because I want to get the big questions wrong. #econometrics aficionado for #paneldata.
I am an assistant prof at Uni #Groningen. -
As an #introduction - I am a former higher education administrator and current Ph.D. Candidate in Education at the University of Washington.
I study #HigherEd, #institutions, and #organizations.
I love #stata, #IPEDS, #paneldata, and #sociology.
My #dissertation is about the adoption of #DistanceEducation.
I am interested in connecting with others on #academicmastodon who are interested in academic administration, institutional research, education policy, and quantitative research. -
Hello! Here's my #introduction:
I'm a Senior Researcher in #statistics at the University of Jyväskylä, Finland, where I currently run PREDLIFE project aiming to develop new methods and software for #Bayesian #CausalInference for complex #paneldata.I'm broadly interested in Bayesian modeling, state space (hidden Markov) models, uncertainty #visualization, and statistical software development. I have developed several #rstats packages such as #KFAS, #bssm, #seqHMM, #walker and #dynamite.

👋 My name Joseph Bulbulia (Joe). I’m a professor of psychology at Victoria University, New Zealand. Most of my teaching and research relates to inferring #causaleffects using #paneldata. Prediction = 👎. #causation = 🤙. I have 3x PhD scholarships for students interested in #causalinference, #EpiMastodon, #rstats, #r, #climate psychology, #religion, and #wellbeing. Am developing #b-causal.org to describe my lab’s work.
