And the many people who work tirelessly to foster #cohesion, increasing the connectedness of our social fabric. Cross-pollinators. In my previous blog post on Grassroots #fediverse I already genuinely thanked whom I called "the pillars grassroots standardization" @evan and @silverpill

This is such important work. In that article I make many points which are unfortunately misunderstood by people as criticism, while it is the opposite. I admire all the fabulous work people are doing and have done over the years to bring #fedi where it is today.

But I argue that to really go next-level, to #ReimagineSocial, and enter the Future of Social networking, we must be able to take more holistic approaches to glue our fragmented online spaces together, and forge a #SocialWeb that is #inclusive to more people, so they can chime in with their 2 cents of #contribution to the whole.

Generally speaking the pursuit of creating "The European Union of Mistrust" isn't the way to go.

Sure, #governments have an urge for control in hypercomplex modern and chaotic #society. But just throwing #tech at it, is NOT the way, and will only backfire. Look only how much much 'safer' the world has become with all the advanced tech we already dumped into society, right?

If we want to build harmonious and peaceful societies that have the right conditions for #democracy to flourish, we better look at fostering social #cohesion between people. Focus on people's virtues, rather than assume vices in a distrust-first society.

"Distrust-first" is the environment of #hypercapitalism, where vices thrive and unfairly advantage people who wield them more.

#Trust is the currency that allows society to progress, and #trustworthiness is upon which it can stand.

How Insects Fly in the Rain

Getting caught in the rain is annoying for us but has the potential to be deadly for smaller creatures like insects. So how do they survive a deluge? First, they don’t resist a raindrop, and second, they have the kinds of surfaces water likes to roll or bounce off. The key to this second ability is micro- and nanoscale roughness. Surfaces like butterfly wings, water strider feet, and leaf surfaces contain lots of tiny gaps where air gets caught. Water’s cohesion — its attraction to itself — is large enough that water drops won’t squeeze into these tiny spaces. Instead, like the ball it resembles, a water drop slides or bounces away.
