    Yes! Fossil fuel industries, companies & workers in them can be part of solutions: a good reminder!: “we can use their expertise in offshore work for setting up offshore wind. And we can use their drilling + fracking expertise in geothermal drilling [without the chemicals] + water drilling as well. And there are workers already transferring to these other sectors of the economy. "Hope is that virtue by which we take responsibility for the future."”

    It could be so good to see these different choices taken & rewarded. Fossil fuel companies don’t have to be ‘the bad guys’. They have so much capacity to be good guys. Sometimes I think they receive terribly poor advice that artificially restricts & limits their options when they could be powering away in new industries that we’d love them to lead.

  2. Many people can't seem to grasp that when you alter one thing in a global ecosystem, it affects other things in that same ecosystem, causing more and more damage..

    "Big increases in wildfires and heatwaves supercharged by the climate crisis are hindering improvements to air quality around the world, UN experts have said.

    Regions that had recorded a fall in pollution emitted by cars and industrial sites are facing new threats to air quality because of exposure to smoke from wildfires, according to a new report, while rising temperatures caused by intense heatwaves are causing a surge in ground-level ozone.

    In turn, the pollution generated by these climate-linked events is itself contributing to climate breakdown, creating a feedback loop that risks dragging the world deeper into environmental catastrophe."

  3. I’m unsure that Amy Remeikis’ description of the #Labor party’s strategic thinking in the recent by-election is 100% on point;

    “That Labor chose a staffer-turned-gas lobbyist as its candidate in Secret Harbour showed more than any focus group that the government has not realised where the public is at.

    Labor followed its old model of choosing candidates, because that’s how it is done. It forgets that the public is not as obsessed with the gas industry as it is – it assumes that, because it supports gas, the public does and being connected with the gas industry is enough to convince people the candidate is sensible. This was the same arrogance that saw Labor parachute Kristina Keneally into the seat of Fowler in 2019, only to see the backlash as an anomaly and not a shifting tide.”

    Still, AMy’s article presents an arguably valid analysis. The fact remains that domestically, our federal govt is either ignoring or failing to read the room (I’ve said that much before in my political toots). I predict that this lacuna will be #AlboPM’s undoing as a leader of the #PartyWhichHasLostItsWay.

    The Q. is, if I read Amy’s article correctly, why is #AlboPM selectively blind to majority public opinion on domestic issues where he can exert the most control as opposed to international affairs. Might he be looking to gain international recognition… in venal pursuit of a personal *legacy*?

    I kind of agree with you, about the controling aspects of the #FossilFuelLobby. On the other hand, if not for fossil fuel, there would be other lobbies seeking #StateCapture. It is in the #moneyedClass interest to excert as much influence as money can buy after all. Remember the Tabacco Lobbies of yore? Same thing. Today we can also point to the #GamblingIndustry and increasingly #DefenceIndustries.

    Unfortunately, with power comes #Greed and #Corruption and #TheRich like it that way. All we can do is stay one step behind our #Leaders ensuring we don’t fall too far back. And the only way to do that is through the ballot box, consistent activism and community-led campaigns (including petitions, protest sit-ins/marches and boycotts, etc.).

    I’m hopeful that consistent messaging by communities eventually cuts through to polies and that our govt (of whatever ilk) will eventually push back against #Zionism and its growing influence in everyday Australian social life because it is so egregious atm.

    Also more peeps ought to have a good long think about it all and take a moral and ethical stand vis a vis #Gaza, #WestBank #Lebanon, etc. not much help if peeps keep watching #FoxFakeNews and similar #Cronies IMO.

    In the grand scheme of things, we need to break up #Oligarchies , #Oligopolies and get serious about progressive #TaxReform.
