  1. The ultimate result of shielding men from the effects of folly is to fill the world with fools.

  2. Trump appears doesn’t know difference between making a #deal & making #peace

Even if one is tempted to credit #Trump’s self-professed efforts as a peacemaker (as part of which he has renamed the United States Institute of Peace after himself) foreign policy experts categorise peace in two competing ways first conceptualised by the late Johan #Galtung, the Norwegian #sociologist and prime mover behind the emergence of the discipline of peace and conflict studies.

  4. Any insight on this topic from professional #psychologist / #sociologist welcomed: I should dig the question deeper In short: how would you describe the frontier between "psychopaths" and "sociopaths" in proto-fascists/leaning-fascist/fascist regimes Where my categorizations could be caricature?

  5. #sociology #sociologist #sociologist #history Is anyone in your field following: @iansociologo.bsky.social‬ I would like a screenshot of his #declaration-of-war on #AI in scientific studies I have been blocked after warning that the labelling "AI" can be used EXACTLY like the word "communist"

  6. Have you been told to stay away from the South or West sides of Chicago?

Artist and photographer Tonika Lewis Johnson and #sociologist Maria Krysan compiled stories from local residents in a new book called “Don’t Go: Stories of Segregation and How to Disrupt It.” #Chicago news.wttw.com/2025/01/29/were-

  7. If anyone's looking for an excellent biography or critical evaluation of the work of #sociologist C. Wright Mills (author of The #PowerElite, Causes of World War 3, etc.), I highly recommend #StanleyAronowitz's Taking It Big: C. Wright Mills & the Making of Political #Intellectuals.

It assesses Mills's major works & how he continuously worked to make public interventions, during a repressive political era in the US (1940s & 1950s), at odds w/ the Stalinist left & liberal apologists. #reading

  8. James Davison Hunter is the distinguished UVA #sociologist whose 1991 vol “#CultureWars” first brought that term to wide attention. His fascinating new book, “#Democracy & #Solidarity,” includes an observation essential not only to rebuilding the solidarity he rightly thinks we need but also to #understanding what’s going on in the 2024 campaign. “It is critical,” Hunter writes, “that we rediscover #HumanBeings underneath the abstractions of our #inflammatory symbolic #politics.”

  9. Recovering #sociologist here.

If you’re wondering what’s at root of #enshitification, government and public service are becoming to the private sector what the #church became to secular government in recent history.

Except—the private sector becomes ever less accountable as the process carries on while government is blamed for everything.

Neither side is perfect. Healthy conflict and stress are good.

But we are veering away from that, into #fascism and #zealotry

  10. @mtaylor_soc What I like most about justifying a sociological #methodology is connecting it to the #epistemology that one subscribes to. This is because, a lot of the time, the #sociologist IS in no small part the research TOOL. Now I want to dig out an old essay that some might say I got WAY too into, haha

  11. 👀 Did #Kids Become More #Racist Under #Trump?

When #sociologist Margaret #Hagerman set out to interview #middleschoolers about their #ideology and #politics in 2017, she asked each child the same series of questions, warming them up with a few softballs — “What’s your #neighborhood like?” and “Do people put up a lot of political #signs — before moving on to “How did you feel after the presidential #election
