It has been a while since I've devoted any time to some #bird #Photography or much #birding at all.
Today, following up (at last) on tales of a #WanderingWhistlingDuck having set up shop at one of our local lakes, we dropped by after my rehab session.
Naturally, it was pouring with rain.
Now anyone who tells you that it is "nice weather for ducks" - it isn't. They are not fond of going out into the pouring rain any more than we are.
However, there is a wildlife centre at the end of the lake the duck was reported to be at, so we popped in there. Turns out there was a #Noongar language and culture in-service training course for teachers going on, but we only really saw them when they came out onto the veranda to eat lunch.
Searching the paperbarks out in the lake, we spotted large numbers of #PinkEaredDuck s, lots of #GreyTeal several #Shoveler s , and a small group of #FreckledDuck s. Then @leece spotted something - next to the Freckled Ducks was something else. It was only present for a couple of minutes, but she managed to snap a couple of shots of the Whistling Duck through the rain, while I got shots of almost everything else.
After, I did a bit of post-processing on the shots, and here we are.
All shot on #NikonP900 and postprocessed in #Snapseed .

Here we have part of the #MilkyWay.
Near the centre we have #Crux, the #SouthernCross, along with the #CoalSack.
Now to share a bit of what I have learned about how the traditional custodians of where I live call things.
Pretty much everywhere the Coal Sack is the head of Wetj, the Emu.
In #Whadjuck #Noongar lands, Crux is Waalitj, the Wedge-Tailed Eagle, but in #Yued lands Crux and the Pointers are Yongka - the kangaroo, with Crux forming the head, and the Pointers being the front paws.
