Taiwanese Hokkien, often called Taiwanese or Taigi, remains one of Taiwan’s major languages, but its use differs sharply by generation.

According to the 2020 census, 65.9% of people aged 65+ primarily used Taiwanese Hokkien, compared with only 7.4% of children aged 6 to 14.

I've started Somali, Ojibwe, Irish, German, and Spanish. You could argue I'm missing some polish✨ on my Western Armenian. 🥴

I feel mostly frustration about Somali and Ojibwe because I didn't retain most of what I did learn and I never got far enough to feel like I "cracked the code" in the sense of feeling like I could keep learning on my own. 😕

German and Spanish, I know if I just simply exposed myself more and made more of an effort, I could get much better. I feel a little embarrassed at the "laziness" of... what? Working 4 jobs simultaneously, building 6 university & community programs, founding a company, teaching multiple languages, learning others, fostering multiple teens, moving countries x5, and creating a groundbreaking framework for meeting a global need...instead of buckling down...or something? 😰

Western Armenian, I feel sad. I would have liked to have lived forever on the outskirts of Beirսէ at the heart of the diaspora, but alas, that opportunity crumbled... but I would like to get good at it.✌️

And Irish...Irish touches something painful. I should know it. It should have been my first language. Well, one of 2 or 3...if we hadn't surrender to the construct of Wh!teness...if there hadn't been a g3n0ըide...

I love looking through https://native-land.ca. I learn something new every time I go, usually by just clicking on one of the random articles on the side. It's pretty clear that it's a small team behind it, and I wish they had more resources to be able to put more indigenous languages on the map (literally!).

If you have some time on your hands and a passion for language, I'd highly suggest checking out their Volunteer page: https://native-land.ca/how-to-contribute/volunteer It's a lovely way to contribute to/learn about global Indigenous sovereignty and lift up marginalized voices. Each language is a worldview; we can learn so much if only we look for it!
