You also have to be willing to tell your stylist when what they are doing is NOT what you want and what you actually DO want. It has taken most of my adult life to be mostly ok at this. I feel awful, I end up giving too much tip because I'm like I'm too picky or I should trust the process. I will usually try to give a few directions until I'm like oh no I'm being horrible, I should just accept it.
I still end up coming home and tweaking it a little with hair cutting scissors. I've watched carefully what they do and mimic the cuts I want to do.
And being queer and #femme... Like at a regular salon? They NEVER want to cut it as short as I want. I usually go w a long pixie and I have to fight for it, even though I say that I want the front to start at my cheekbones and get shorter towards the back. I know what looks good on me, I've been doing this for years, please just listen. I do bring pics of my fave cuts on myself too 🤷♀️
I know I need to find a good #queer salon in my area. I know I need to be willing to pay for good service and someone who knows me & is willing to pay attention, but that is so much work and then you need to plan.in advance to make an appointment way ahead. It's terrifying and so much! Ugh #NeurodivergentSquad
