  11. I'm playing a game that involves taking an oath to the USA. It can be refused and I do every time. Oaths ... they leave a bad taste in my mouth especially after being raised in the USA during Afghanistan and Iraq. Story time.

The Pledge of Allegiance is disturbing to say the least but I had a classmate who was half Cherokee. Her view of the US was rather poor given her heritage and so when Iraq happened she decided to protest by exercising her US rights to not partake in the pledge of allegiance.

In this time of heightened nationalism, let's say the teachers didn't take this well. They tried to persuade her, and failed and it just exposed the class to more negative views of the USA via her counter arguments. Counter productive and it just pissed them off. They threatened punishment, she did not aquiesce. So they sent her detention, every time, until her parents threatened lawyers for infringement of her 1st ammendment rights.

After that every morning was hearing the teeth grinding of the teachers. Almost drowned out the intercom. I don't have a positive outlook on Nationalist ass oaths and it's not JUST that. Even how we treat our National Anthem is Nazi-ass racist bull shit. I know because I live in a country where they made certain verses of their National Anthem illegal for being too nationalist.

Like America is weird and Nationalist to it's core and now I balk from these oaths even in video games. Cyberpunk Phantom Liberty is the Game btw.
