One of the key questions around the Migration and Asylum Pact, adopted by the European Union in May 2024, is which countries will be able to avoid part of their obligations?

The #EU passed a comprehensive #MigrationPact that they have been working on for years. Some said it's too harsh, others not harsh enough.

I don't have any idea what is in it. I am just so happy and impressed that they could pass anything at all, illustrating the glory of the EU.

#Europe, just like the #US, has its #fascists and fascist-adjacent forces whose goal is to prevent any agreement or solution. On everything not just #migration.

And they just got their asses kicked.

The passing of the #MigrationPact shows a clear priority of state interests over human rights.

#Drittstaaten sollen als sicher erklärt werden, auch wenn diese Länder ihre eigenen Staatsangehörigen verfolgen oder fliehenden Menschen nicht einmal einen rechtlichen Status zugestehen.

All das wird noch mehr Menschen dazu zwingen, immer gefährlichere Routen zu wählen. Kein einziges Leben wird durch die heutige Entscheidung gerettet werden. #Europa hat beschlossen, aus seinen schlimmsten Beispielen zu lernen. Das ist ein historisches Versagen.

Der neue Pakt wird den Zugang zu Schutz in Europa einschränken, indem er beschleunigte Asylverfahren an den Grenzen einführt, um sog. Rückführungen zu erleichtern.

Geflüchtete Menschen sollen vom Rest der Gesellschaft isoliert, in abgelegenen Lagern festgehalten und auf diese Weise jede Möglichkeit des Ankommens verhindert werden.

Fliehende Menschen erleben schon jetzt grausame Praktiken: Sie werden in Lager wie Moria gepfercht, Kinder werden von ihren Eltern getrennt, Boote werden daran gehindert sicher Land zu erreichen, Menschen werden an den Grenzen bewusstlos geschlagen oder erfrieren gelassen.

Mit dem jetzt erzielten Abkommen wird all dies fortgeführt und sogar in Recht gegossen.

Heute Morgen wurde das Ergebnis der Trilog Verhandlungen über den neuen EU-Migrationspakt veröffentlicht.

Mit der Einigung über das GEAS hat die #EU beschlossen, einen Status quo in Gesetze zu gießen, in dem Gewalt, Vernachlässigung, Folter & das Sterbenlassen von Menschen alltägliche Praxis sind.
