Google mega fine to slash taxpayers’ contributions to Brussels.
After years of legal wrangling, Google earlier this month paid the €4.6 billion, which amounts to over 2% of the bloc’s total budget in 2026.
The sanction, which is the EU’s largest-ever single fine, will go some way toward filling countries’ spending needs for 2026, a European Commission official confirmed to POLITICO.

Good news from Brussels.
The European Parliament has voted to increase the next EU budget to over 2 trillion euros for the next seven years.
This is a very sensible and justified position that EU member states should support. The draft budget presented by the European Commission (amounting to 1.8 trillion euros) was not ambitious enough, and it is good that the European Parliament has made the necessary amendments.
What does this mean? An additional 200 billion euros for farmers and industrial competitiveness. More funds to support the EU’s social and economic development, protect human rights, combat discrimination, promote more affordable housing, education, and healthcare, and increase investments in defense. In short, more resources and investments for the benefit of people in Europe.
The European Union cannot achieve more with a smaller budget, and the governments of the member states need to understand this.
The leaders of countries calling for budget cuts, even below the 1.8 trillion euros proposed by the European Commission, need to understand that without an adequate budget, it is impossible to build a stronger and better Union.
To address issues such as housing, living conditions, climate change, the energy crisis, and many others, the EU needs a robust budget and a concrete plan for how to invest every cent.
We need less greed and fewer decisions made solely with an eye toward political gain ahead of the next election. Instead, we need to focus more on building a better, stronger, united, and prosperous Europe for everyone.
