Arriving at his first #EUCO summit, new Dutch PM Rob Jetten also defended #EUETS from Meloni's attacks. "Without the ETS we would be importing billions in fossil fuels," he told reporters. Nordic leaders have also come in defending EU climate policy.

Anlässlich des #EUCO Rates in Brüssel und dort dem #MFR auf der Tagesordnung (neben Hilfsgeldern Ukraine und Mercosur) durfte ich in der @FR für @NABU darauf hinweisen, dass der nächste EU-Haushalt die Umweltkrisen nicht ausreichend berücksichtigt und mehr Schein als Sein herrscht. Our so-called Leaders at the #EUCO apparently did not seem to seize the urgency, but at least did not kill the (already insufficient) 2040 EU #climate target. Still: a totally unnecessary extra lap that was taken, delaying the whole process.
