Alrighty then. Very old #MacBook has been taken offline with a big sticky note attached to remind me why. I'm pretty sure the version of #MicrosoftSucks Office is too old to be affected, but I'm not taking any chances. And yeah, time to switch back to #OpenOffice and maybe someday do a #LinuxInstall on some of my old-but-still-working computers.

From Dust to Desktop: How to Revive Your Old #Laptop with #Linux
April 4, 2025 by Martin
Excerpt: "Here’s why Linux is the perfect solution for your old laptop:
- It’s Incredibly Efficient: Lightweight Linux distributions use a fraction of the RAM and CPU power that Windows 10 or 11 demand. This leaves more resources for your applications, making everything feel faster.
- It’s Secure: The underlying architecture of Linux makes it far less susceptible to viruses and malware than Windows. Plus, with ongoing community support, even old systems receive regular security updates.
- It’s Free: The operating system and thousands of high-quality applications (web browsers, office suites, media players) are completely free to download and use.
- It’s Customizable: You can make your Linux desktop look and feel exactly how you want it to. From a macOS-style dock to a classic Windows 2000-era taskbar, the choice is yours."#SolarPunkSunday #LinuxInstall #ReuseRepairRestore #OldComputers #Computers #EndOfWindows10

OK, this is getting weird. The install screen has been stopped for more than one hour at the LVM config step.
I dont' think that is a SSD issue, because I had this same SSD in another machine without problems. Hmmm... I think I'm going to abort the installation and try again.
(I checked the ISO sha256sum previously, so I don't think it's the installation media, but let's try with another pendrive.)

Done!
Installation was bumpy… The main issue was that I chose
btrfsfor/boot, which apparently needsext4instead.Now I am getting this error message during boot, does anyone have any idea about how to solve this? (Please tell me I don’t need to reinstall…)
Apart from that everything seems to be working well! I will conclude the configuration tomorrow.

When finishing the install and booting for the first time I get
```error: ../../grub-core/kern/mm. c:552:out of memory
Press any key to continue...
```
Pressing a key does nothing.
Rebooting leads to the same thing. Interestingly each time I reboot, a new fedora entry is added to the boot menu.Kind of lost with this, any ideas what the issue might be?
Thank you 🙏 -

#fedora #Kinoite #linuxinstall #linuxhelp
I've installed fedora kinoite on an older lenovo ideapad with 16gb RAM and 500gb disk. It has nvidia mx150.
I came from Windows, turned off secure boot and switched to AHCI instead of RAID. I've reclaimed all the space and used automatic partitioning.
I've also used fedora media writer, and passed the media test.1/2

I did try to install Arch on a VM from scratch without using the install script. The idea was to learn more about the architecture of a Linux system and how everything comes together.
I used the last 2 days to install a KDE based client and a server with openssh.
I did use Grub as a boot loader for both installations.
The first installation took a long time since I did a stupid mistake but the second one was in less than an hour.
