Is it just me, or has Tidal's web player stopped responding to media keys (previous, next, pause)?
Related: Is there a streaming service that has a downloadable app for Linux (and isn't Spotify)?
Alternatively, is there some process that might be intercepting those keys? I'm on Linux Mint Cinnamon.

hey yall, need some linux help here
I'm on Linux Mint 22.3. On around December 7, 2025 my desktop environment seemed to have frozen. Ever since then at least once or twice a month I get either one of three things:
-Desktop environment and mouse freeze up and do not recover, requiring a force restart
-System crashes with a green screen, requiring a force restart
-System just randomly restarts on its ownI suspected from the green screen crashes that it was my graphics drivers, so I added these to my kernel parameters: amdgpu.dcdebugmask=0x10 amdgpu.gpu_recovery=1 which seemed to have fix it as I haven't gotten it since, but freezes and reboots still happen. It never happens under circumstances like playing video games or watching YouTube videos. It specifically happens when I'm just browsing the web normally. I'm unsure what is causing it. I checked if there's anything potentially causing overheating and there is not. I also checked journalctl and dmesg but those showed up with nothing. This did not happen under Windows 10 or Linux Mint for the few months until December 7, 2025. I do remember one green screen crash under EndeavourOS in 2024 when I first got this computer, but I haven't seen this problem again until a few months ago.

How do I troubleshoot a black screen on #KDE #Plasma? I am able to launch apps just fine, but:
- the desktop is all black (no start menu, global menu etc, and the desktop background isn't getting rendered)
- the window decorations are HUGE.
Is there any easy way to debug this? I had initially suspected this was due to my using #Stylix on stock #archlinux, but no, disabling it didn't change a thing (apart from the theme).
I do have custom desktop effects and window decorations installed; so I suspect that might be the issue. How do I disable them if systemsettings does not launch (for some weird reason)?
It's definitely not a kernel issue (I've tried on the stock Arch kernel and the CachyOS kernel), and it certainly isn't a graphics issue (stock mesa etc, and I don't have a dGPU on this machine).
Will send screenshots in a while. Any and all help appreciated! Thanks in advance. Toots and boosts welcome.

does anyone knows what's the root cause of this issue/bug ? I've had the exact same problems and I suspect it's because of my wi-fi card drivers / 6.4 kernels and onwards
basically: frequent wifi disconnects, complete unrecoverable system crashes during high network activity, and no sysrq responses afterwards. logs say nothing

Got to keep my work laptop and just realised that I'm now free to ditch Windows and install Linux. It's a Thinkpad E14 gen 3 with AMD Ryzen 5, 16 gb ram and a 256 gb ssd. I dabbled with Mint a long time ago but consider myself a somewhat informed newbie, who now has the time to experiment and learn.
So I'm looking for tips and advice about which distro I should check out, what I should take into account and anything that can help me with this project.

Hey anyone running #GarudaLinux - I'm not but two of my friends are, and I have a couple of questions I was hoping could be answered.
One of them can't upgrade their system at the moment as librewolf can't resolve the dependency
libvpx.so=11-64The Other hasn''t been able use Blender for the last 2 months because Python is incompatible (apparently a function name changed to do with string manipulation)
Any advice on how I can help them fix this?

[Edit: Solved!] I [had] a bizarre-ass #Bash #scripting problem. I'm at my wits' end.
I have a script that scans a directory and picks a random file from it. This script works just fine if I invoke it manually, from the command line in a terminal window.
But if I run it from the Linux Mint/Cinnamon menu (start menu, whatever), it hangs when it tries to list the files in the dir. Likewise when run from crontab (which is how I really want to run it most of the time). 🧵 1/4

Seeking help with linux install.
I am trying to keep Debian installed on my pc but my MSI motherboard keeps removing the boot entry from NVRAM so it doesn't show up when I reboot. So i am forced to boot to windows so that the entry is repopulated on reboot. I heard it's because MSI motherboard removes any entries that are not in the default path (/EFI/BOOT/BOOTX64.efi). I tried manually creating this entry with bootctl (systemd-boot) and EFIbootmgr. But this still doesn't stop the boot entries from being removed. And once the boot to windows then reboot only the grub entry to Debian is left and not the systemd boot entry. I am trying to move it to the systemd-boot.
I want to move of windows eventually but I need the debian install to be consistent first.
What are the proper commands for bootctl and efimgr to set the correct bootloader so that it persists after each shutdown? I have the debian install on a sata SSD and windows is on the nvme drive.

Does anyone know if there is a way in #KDE to adjust the color on multiple monitors?
I had to replace one my screens and the the new one has a slight by very noticeable orange tint.
Is there any way to adjust the way colors are displayed on either of the two monitors in KDE to make them match? -
No one? Hmm...I guess people on the fedi are just not that good at #linux ...😁

I’m looking for a maintained and open source app like MS Access. It’s not that I need every feature and I don’t worry about what programming langue it might be based on. But it can’t be unmaintained or work poorly.
Any suggestions?

I'm at a loss, need some #LinuxHelp here: I'm mounting my managed #Nextcloud via WebDAV and suddenly (it's always suddenly, right?) I cannot list the contents of the mounted directory anymore. Which leads to the weird situation shown in the screenshot (text in alt). I've tried setting up everything from scratch a few times before realising that it's just the listing that's not working.

Hey, I'm looking for some #FediHelp! It's #linux related.
So I installed #ZorinOS on my FIL's aging HP Envy x360 2-in-1 laptop, and he's pretty happy with it. The install was smooth, we were able to set him up with some #FOSS software that fit his needs, and move over all of his old files. The OS experience is great and in that regard neither of us have any complaints there.
One issue we keep running into, however: when the laptop is asleep overnight, or sometimes if you just look away for about half an hour, the laptop suspends but doesn't wake up. The keyboard backlight is lit, but the screen is off and nothing will wake it up. We have to reboot it every time.
My old Clevo laptop (+ any variety of distros) did this a while back and the only thing that would (sometimes) fix it was to close the lid, wait a minute or two, and open it again. I was never able to diagnose it, and I think it's happening again here.
Things I've already done:
- Switch display server to X11 only
- Update GRUB params to use the system's acpi tables
- Disable BIOS safe boot
- Updated the firmwareThe laptop doesn't have NVIDIA graphics (it's 100% Intel) so I'm not worried about that. My current strategy for making it work during the day is to just never let the screen sleep (he had that on his old laptop and seemed to like it).
Is there anything else I can do for when the laptop has been closed overnight?

I want to be able to get to a specific open window without having to remember how many other windows I've been thru since the last time I used it, and without covering up other things I'm using. Is this possible in Linux Mint Cinnamon? Is there some other window manager or desktop environment that would give me that?
Major thanks to anyone who can help or advise. 🙏🏻 3/3

Current behavior: instead of cycling thru windows in the order they were opened after system startup, it cycles in most-recently-used order, and activates each window in turn (raising them above other things that were previously in front). 2/3
-
Okay, I probably can't have the behavior I want, but it can't hurt to ask, right?
What I want: Pressing Super+2 goes to the first-opened window of the application that's 2nd in the task bar. Pressing Super+2, holding Super and tapping 2 a second time goes to the second-opened of those windows, without activating the first. (Etc. for Super+N for any of the first 9 items on the task bar.) 1/3

Okay, I looked in the Software Manager, found Emoji Mart, installed it. Set up a custom shortcut to invoke it (yay, learning!). Now it pops up when I want, and I can pick an emoji...
...and then nothing happens. How do I *insert* that emoji into what I'm writing?
Has anyone else had that problem?
[Edit: Never mind, I installed Emote instead and that works great.]

I made a new video! This time, I share how I install Debian on my systems. I wanted to do something a little more unscripted this time.
Apparently there are about 10 seconds of bad audio at the beginning. Sorry about that! I'm not sure what happened.

I'm in need of some #linuxhelp again:
I have two computers running #Manjaro, both being on the same wifi network and I am able to send single files with #KDE Connect between them.
But I would like to move whole directories with tens of thousands of files. In Dolphin, both computers appear on the other under "Devices", but when I click on them, both show the error "target has no Remote Filesystem plugin" and show no files.
I can't find a single page describing this error.

Alright, I feel I am at a loss with no idea how to proceed.
New notebooks appear to be only able to boot from USB sticks formatted in fat32.
All the Linux tools for creating a bootable USB drive only seem to make the sticks formatted in iso9660.
Is there anything I can do to install Linux on a notebook? I never had this issue with any of my old notebooks before.

So I'm trying out #Fedora 43's #KDE spin on my #SurfacePro 9 with a live USB. I know about #SurfaceLinux if I decide to go all in with it. The network browser in Dolphin seems to be using '.local' for my instead of the search domain configured in /etc/resolv.conf. This seems to cause authentication to fail trying to access shares. I can manually type in the right hostname, but curious why it's putting that '.local' in there at all.

Advice needed: I want to set up #Linux Kiosk PCs. Users must log in with a card ID and password that are verified via a PHP webservice against a MariaDB.
The challenge: I need the Linux desktop login (e.g., via a Display Manager like LightDM/GDM) to authenticate against the custom remote service.
How can I implement this? Custom PAM module? Python-pam? Scripts?🤔
