  2. Steam Controller vibration motor hacks: Play music, drive it like a RC car, and even make it return to its charger automatically

Valve’s new Steam Controller is a $99 game controller that went on sale in May (and quickly sold out). It has all the usual features like dual analog sticks, a D-Pad, ABXY buttons, and shoulder triggers. It also has some unusual features like two touchpads that make it easier to play some PC games.

There’s also an active community of independent developers who are leveraging the Steam […]

  7. #StarCitizen experimental #haptics are linked to the physics and movements of the ship. Players can feel the weight of the ship, feel weapons and impacts, for hits taken and for recoil. Different ships and loadouts don't just look and sound different, they feel different too.

  8. Brilliant work by Xiangshan Tan , Jingtian Ji , Tianchong Jiang , and Matthew R. Walter!

  15. New #CHI2026 paper: “How are Vibrotactile Experiences Visually Represented? A Taxonomy of Illustration Characteristics”

We analyzed hundreds of images from research articles to uncover how vibrotactile experiences are visually represented and synthesized their features into a comprehensive taxonomy.

  16. I found a new science-based open source VR haptics device! This one stretches your arm skin instead of some mechanism on the hand. This has two advantages: It feels more natural for big movements, and it's probably easier to wear since it doesn't interfere with the controller. Promising, will try to build one!

  21. The role of visual experience in haptic spatial perception: evidence from early blind, late blind, and sighted individuals bsd.biomedcentral.com/articles #haptics

  22. Does anyone know of mappings from vision to touch? I'd like to map the artistic aesthetics of visual art to haptic feedback, like vibrations and textures felt through the fingertips using a piezoelectric haptic motor.

I'm thinking people with synesthesia that blend visual and haptic information may have ideas about potential mappings between visual sensations like colors and touch sensations like textures or vibrations.

I'm trying to imagine how a blind person could touch visual art.

    Anyone have leads?
