  1. „Eine Hypothese ist erst dann wirklich interessant, wenn du vorher weißt, was dich dazu bringen würde, sie aufzugeben.“

In der Praxis heißt „Validierung" leider oft: Wir suchen Bestätigung. Willkommen in der Selbstvergewisserungs-Falle (aka Confirmation Bias).

  2. @patc Gee… if only someone did user research! I thought Adobe was a design driven company. 🤷

There’s so many unemployed user researchers out there right now. You’d think they could afford to hire some (if they don’t already have the talent in-house going unused).

  3. Having to tell people in our software industry about known and well-established cognitive biases still feels a little “how didn’t you know that?” but then of course I’m falling victim to the false consensus bias there 😉

For example, company demonstrates a new product at a trade show and they tell us “everyone loved it!” thinking that translates to guaranteed sales and a good UX. I don’t want to be the buzzkill but no, a demo in public is not solid research.

  4. Include people with cognitive disabilities in user research, not just accessibility research.

They can surface general usability issues related to content, buttons and links, icons or visual elements, and media while also helping you understand how your product functions in terms of cognitive load.

  5. Take our experiment: studies.labinthewild.org/color to test your color perception! Researchers have been debating if people perceive colors differently based on the language they speak. Help us learn more by taking our experiment (link in bio) and find out your color perception score in the process!

  6. Take our experiment: studies.labinthewild.org/aesth to learn more about how your web design taste compares to people around the world. Did you know the same website loved by people in Russia can be disliked by people in Mexico? Culture shapes your taste more than you think!

  7. Anthropic moved us to the bigger tier and pricing rocketed. The day before, I’d highlighted the risk to a director, but sadly not quick enough. “The billing is a concern” I was told. They are in negotiations - good luck! I suspect many are unhappy with Anthropic et al.

Anyhoo. We have to run an agentic trial. Very much interested in your case studies about agentic approaches and integrating any research data, if you have any success or horror stories!

  10. In a thrilling exposé on Japanese web design 🗾, an author spent 8 weeks uncovering the shocking revelation that Japanese websites don't follow Western aesthetics 🤯. Marvel at the groundbreaking analysis of why the land of zen gardens and minimalism prefers their websites to resemble a fiesta of chaos and colors 🎨🔍.

  11. Visibility settings on social platforms can be confusing. I wanted to see if we could make Mastodon's a bit clearer by rethinking the UI modal.

By using chips instead of dropdowns, we can use standard interaction patterns to make the 'who can see this' decision instant rather than a multi-click process. Small details, but they add up. Thoughts?
