  10. I really appreciate the ritual of everyone in a lab group presenting their work to each other on a regular basis.

Presentation and communication skills are seriously undervalued in science, so enforced practice seems like a very good thing.

More importantly, though, I find it incredibly valuable to reflect on what I've been doing, why, what it means, what I can learn from that, and how it ought to shape my work going forward. There's something about declaring these things publicly that forces me to be concrete, and makes it much harder to deceive myself.

Then, of course, there's the precious feedback. So important! For me, that's the main reason to do science in academia. I don't think a human mind works very well without the perspective and criticism of others.

  21. Don't tell IT, but I just realized that my #rstats GAM/BAM only used a single core on the #HPC while I requested 128 🫣

Now I'm up to 4 cores at least, no idea why #mgcv isn't using more.

I didn't expect it to be this difficult to use more resources.

  40. I went down the airtightness rabbit hole today to try to disentangle the different units used by researchers, industry and standards. So we can talk about them in a meaningful way. GAH! Blower doors need the 50Pa but buildings don't operate there. In all fairness. I LOVED IT! I am such a building geek 😍 #PhDLife

  45. Having a low work day today. Need to recover from the syncope last night. Will finish methodology today (1 page left 🤣🤣) Then maybe take it easy if my brain needs it. But more often than not, I get into a track and keep going. This will end soon and I will be editing my novel instead of my thesis 🥰 #PhDLife
