Clouds Over the Valley

So many time I've gone to the valley. So many times I've seen a clear blue sky as I round the turn just before this turnout in the road. So many times I've pulled over here and taken pictures that are beautiful, yet they look just like everyone else's.
Rarely do I come around this corner and see something that looks like this.

Half Dome Spring
Yosemite National Park is truly a national treasure. No picture taken or painting painted that can capture the true beauty and feeling that one has when first visiting this magnificent National Park.
This was captured on a warm spring day. There is still a small trace of snow on top of and on the face of Half Dome and a small amount of snow in the shadows in the valley.

Winter in the Valley

Stoneman Bridge in Yosemite Valley is a popular spot for photographers and painters alike. Looking up to the Northeast the Merced River flows down from Happy Isle and crosses in Front of Half Dome. To the south you can follow the river down along the eastern walls of the valley.

In 2009 I set out on my second US road trip, driving from Houston all the way to Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Along the way I visited Meteor Crater in Arizona, before reaching California’s granite domes and the cables of Half Dome. From deserts to mountains, this was another step in my photography journey.

Half Dome Winter

There are few places in Yosemite Valley where you can't look up and have a view of Half Dome.
This image was captured from the meadow just west of Yosemite Falls and South of Half Dome. From this location you have a clear view of Yosemite Falls, Glacier Point, and Half Dome.
The fresh layer of snow on the tree branches shows that this is a fresh snow. I do hope you enjoy it.

I think the people saying half dome isn’t scary are maybe honest, as if you have extensive outdoors experience it probably isn’t. But for the average person, it is scary and dangerous.

When I did it, I was a moderately fit person who still had to train a bit in order to complete the many-hours long hike and climb. The dangers there are if you go on your own or with people who aren’t experienced there are so many ways it can go wrong.

I was fine because I went with a group with guides and they were like if you’re scared I will escort you back down. If I’d just gone with some random group I would not have felt so safe.

Still one of the scarier things I’ve done. I have also not been as exhausted as I was hiking to, then climbing it, then hiking back to camp. I almost fell asleep walking back.
