I ran out of cotton and then remembered that my mom also has a bush in her yard so I went and harvested it the other day. Back to the beginning of the process.

I make my rolags without carding brushes. I just take my time and card by hand. Slow. I don’t have much cotton to work with, so it’s a way to savor the material.

I’m also sprouting new cotton plants from seed in the garden: the native variety I’ve been growing and a new variety of green cotton called Davis Green. 🌱

I brought my spindle along on our #camping trip in Georgia where there is a thriving cotton industry. We passed tons of recently harvested cotton fields with giant bales wrapped in plastic. There were still a few bolls left on each plant and the ground was littered with white fibers. We stopped on the side of the road to collected a few bolls for me to spin. This industrial variety has more fiber per boll than the native variety I grow, and the seeds are easier to remove. #spinning #fibers
