How long/tall is it?
My first guess is a supported spindle (perhaps a goddess-style phang spindle?)-- you'd twirl it on the pointy tip (on a flat surface or a bowl) and draft with the other tip. The cop can be wound around the middle of the spindle, and you can create a temporary cop closer to where you're drafting.
I suspect the bit of string attached to it might've come from a leader that you can attach your fiber to to get started?

Will my future girlfriend think I'm gay if I wear this on our winter wonderland walks?

Got a lovely yarn haul - enough for several projects I have planned! - from a recent sale at [Dye Hard Yarns](http://www.dyehardyarns.com).
Most of it is cakes, but of course the two projects I want to make first (a birthday gift for a friend, and a gift for my bestie from college) are using skeins that need to be made into yarn balls. I haven't yet invested in a yarn swift, so this is a still a manual process... 🙄 And lace-weight yarn is particularly tricky, because it *loves* to tangle.
But I've realized that I can walk at my treadmill desk, listening to my favorite podcast, while I unwind the skein and wind the yarn ball! 🧶💖 My insulated mug makes a smooth, sturdy hanger for the skein, too.
I get about 5,000 steps per yarn ball, so that was a nice easy 10,000 steps today... 😇

Handsewing historically accurately but mainly in the sense that both the sewists of yore and I do it this way bc neither of us have access to a functioning machine whereas historical costuming purists absolutely could use a machine but dont for the aesthetic
Come at me purists, the sewists of yesteryear absolutely would have used a machine if theyd had it and you know it

Crafty people, beware!! Lang Yarns does a really crappy job of transitioning colors to fill out a skein of gradient yarn. This is their Merino + Color, 926.0200 - the second time I've run into this abomination...
I don't think I'll buy gradient yarn from them again, since two of the five skeins I bought have this problem. Fortunately I was able to work around it, but 😡.

Now and then, we take short breaks from game design. When we come back, we have better perspective on the questions, “Which games are poised to get themselves made?” and “What is our passion project?”
We also give ourselves space to play with odd ideas.
One of my oddities is a game for fiber crafters called “Well Spun”. I pulled out my parlor wheel this morning partly for inspiration.
I call this blend of yak and silk “Forest in Winter”.

Started a new fidget toy for #ADHD management at @CackalackyCon this weekend! Another moogly Fortune's Shawlette (https://www.mooglyblog.com/fortunes-shawlette/), this one for my SIL.
Simple box repeat - recently made one for another friend and it's the perfect "keeps hands busy so brain can focus" project. Blocks out gorgeously even at a much looser tension than I usually use! The pattern has a picot edging, which is tedious, but it looked so good at the end that it was worth the effort.
Yarn is more Madeline Tosh Merino Light, this time in Rhinestone Rosie. Not a colorway I would have chosen, but my SIL picked it out, and I do like how the raspberry sections make interesting random splotches...

Very interesting - using S and Z spun singles for #weaving.
So many ideas to explore. #fibercraft has endless potential of going down rabbit holes and side rabbit holes of rabbit holes. And then side side holes ...

That's actually two (or three?) throwbacks in one. I've made this #barbie dress back in 2009 - it's on the barbie I got probably sometime in the 1970ies. And making dresses for barbie was how I mostly learned to #crochet after knowing the basic sts. It was my first expression of #fibercraft #creativity (I think one of those dresses still exists, I'll have to dig)
Though here I used a pattern - "Morning Glory Fashion Doll Dress" (no longer available).

Stunning pattern for a #crochet throw.
I've no idea what "overlay mosaic crochet" is, but I sure will check out.

#Selfpromotion - my new #knitting #pattern is live.
I've created the cowl as a gift to a friend for their retirement. I hope, someone else will also have fun with that pattern and maybe have a present for a special person in their life?
Pattern is free everywhere.

#Fiberuary -#texture: #weaving is the newest addition to my #fibercraft interests. This is the first project that I did on my 8 shaft #tableloom .
The yarn I used is a cotton-sock-yarn (wool-cotton-nylon blend). And because I'm adventerous I started with a complicated looking 4 shaft pattern. And because I'm really adventerous I choose a draft that I had to convert from treadle-tie-up to lift-plan. But it worked - and I love twill weaving.
