custom split side skirt by me, worn at the les miserables manila concert. 🪡
the body is made from a cambodian indigo-dyed scarf and unbranded pashmina, the waist tie is polo club cashmere. these were all items unsold from my old online shop. I ran out of time so this is a modified split side with no pockets.
the top is a 70-30 rayon polyester urban & co dress I've had for 10 years. the leather bag is thrifted from japan surplus. shoes from otto.

Considering buying some cotton flannel fabric to make some long pyjama bottoms - but one of the sewing patterns I have explicitly states that it should not be made with "cotton flannel fabrics" which apparently ,"burn readily".
I was not aware that cotton flannel was especially flammable ! 👀

Handsewing historically accurately but mainly in the sense that both the sewists of yore and I do it this way bc neither of us have access to a functioning machine whereas historical costuming purists absolutely could use a machine but dont for the aesthetic

So the friend I had ice cream date with yesterday is also a sewist. We looked over my fabric swatches for the cloak.
She pretty much agrees with my assessment: that cooler green is maybe the best technical match, but it looks terrible on my skin tone.
The green I love is bright, and a statement, but looks EXCELLENT on me.
This cloak is a passion project, I'm going with the one that makes my soul happy.

I've been saying for years that I'm a rubbish #sewist but I recently joined a Morris side either my other half and the look involves wearing fancy tailored jackets made of curtain or upholstry fabric so needs must! Our two jackets are truly the first garments I've ever made (pictured is mine) . I just took it steady, followed instructions, and took apart a cheap charity shop tailored jacket to see how it is done by the professionals. The main challenge was pattern matching the pieces.

I didn't want to do a project that required me to move much today so I opted to set the complicated dress aside and do the much simpler, yet related, project of making medieval hoes. You know, a project that can be done in a day, with hand sewing, under a blanket with a hot water bottle whilst watching comfy shows.
As all fans of fashion history know they should be secured by a ribbon tied under the knee but I don't have a ribbon to hand.
