custom split side skirt by me, worn at the les miserables manila concert. 🪡

the body is made from a cambodian indigo-dyed scarf and unbranded pashmina, the waist tie is polo club cashmere. these were all items unsold from my old online shop. I ran out of time so this is a modified split side with no pockets.

the top is a 70-30 rayon polyester urban & co dress I've had for 10 years. the leather bag is thrifted from japan surplus. shoes from otto.

@the It's cheap, synthetic, fast drying, durable & pretty easy to include in mass production systems. It's also a static electricity collection machine, especially when not mixed with at least 50% cotton or linen..

It mostly came in with rayon, which is about as durable as onionskin tissue paper& spandex, as an additive to natural fibers to reduce the need to iron clothes, at a time when most people dressed far more formally than they do now.

Now it's gotten rather ridiculous, because everyone who can afford mostly natural fiber formal clothing, can afford to pay someone to iron their clothes for them, so it's expansion & continued market spot is an example of #Enshittification of #Clothing & why #FuckCapitalism makes so much sense.

As someone with delicate skin who enjoys clothing making, I find it's a fiber I work to avoid using, preferring cotton, linen, silk & leather. Socks being the only thing that a little synthetic makes sense in, that being spandex.

Considering buying some cotton flannel fabric to make some long pyjama bottoms - but one of the sewing patterns I have explicitly states that it should not be made with "cotton flannel fabrics" which apparently ,"burn readily".

My wife has a singer prelude #sewing machine that seems to not be keeping up its end of the bargain.

She’s been working on projects (mostly garments and leotards for the kids) and is endlessly frustrated with it.

I’d love to surprise her with a new machine but I don’t know enough about them to know what to get.

Is there a #sewist out there that can give me a recommendation?

Handsewing historically accurately but mainly in the sense that both the sewists of yore and I do it this way bc neither of us have access to a functioning machine whereas historical costuming purists absolutely could use a machine but dont for the aesthetic

Come at me purists, the sewists of yesteryear absolutely would have used a machine if theyd had it and you know it

Was gifted a sick Mothman patch, so I had to make something equally great to put it on. I think this two tone black jean jacket fits the #cryptidcore bill. Made it using scrap fabrics from a couple pair of pants I made my partner a few months ago.
