  1. Crochet tip: if you want to try a new technique, try it on something for a child. Not just because the project will be smaller if it's kid-sized, but also a) kids don't know what stuff is supposed to look like, and b) they'll outgrow it, so if you make some mistakes you won't have to look at them for long.

Sincerely, an aunt who's trying planned-pooling techniques on probably the wrong yarn.

  2. Here's a recent crochet toy made for a wee boy who loves the kid's show it is from 😊 I used chenille yarn to give him a bit of a fuzzy texture and he came out quite large as you can see.

  3. Here's a recent crochet make for a wee boy..I love kids and their imagination. We should all learn to be more like children again I think 😊

  4. Here's a recent crochet toy order. I loved the style of this little cat creature - very unique 🙂

  5. I have recently taken to referring to crochet as my "socially acceptable fidget toy" because a) it's true, but also because b) other neurodivergent people seem to be DELIGHTED by this description.

  6. youtu.be/_fao3RsZ-80?t=1225 shows a technique called "weaving" in her knitting manual, but I think for hand-knitters it's closer to roosimine or Estonian Inlay? It's not an exact replication because it's done in a way that takes advantage of the affordances of the machine, but produces a somewhat similar effect.

  7. The technique that I don't think can really be reproduced by hand-knitting is "plating" which knits with two contrasting yarns at once, but instead of producing a marled effect, the yarns are carefully arranged so that one is always to the front and one is always to the back. I don't see how a hand knitter could achieve this, but perhaps you know of a way?: youtu.be/_fao3RsZ-80?t=1346

  8. I enjoy the creativity of knitfactoryImpl's youtube channel but this video showing off the capabilities of a particular knitting machine was fascinating. You can watch the whole thing but I'm going to put in timestamps to talk about a couple of particular techniques

  12. Some white #crochet from our Festival ...
Does anybody know how this "wavy" technique (photo 3/4) was called/made:
edit: Image search showed me "Victorian hexagons". I found originals from the 1920/50s but it may be much older.
On Ravelry I found modernized patterns with "popcorns": ravelry.com/patterns/library/m

  13. I had promised you more #grannies from our Festival of #Wool & #Yarn. The square-bags were new, but I suspect the horrible shades of orange and brown are original 1970s. 🤭
We had a big hype with grannies in the 1960/70s, first with colourful fancy #hippie #fashion, then in the typical colours of rubbish bins (in the early 1970s, everything had that dirty orange: bins, coffee-machines, skirts, wall-papers). @fiberarts

  15. Very happy with my extremely 1970's weaving for my textile art challenge. So much fun to make! And all you need is some cardboard, tapestry needles and leftover bits of yarn and fabric.
