Here's all the dried, retted #yucca bundled up on the left. On the right is the finished product from my last batch. Beautiful, strong, cream coloured fibres.
To get there now just requires a lot of manual working of the bundle, followed by lots of and lots brushing.
This isn't particularly hard, but it is time consuming, so it's best done with company, and definitely done outside (it produces lots of chaff).
If you've got a crafts fair, ren faire, or other outdoors event in #Narrm #Melbourne that's broadly aligned with my values and would benefit from a fibre processing demonstration, hit me up.
Otherwise I'll likely be cleaning and dressing these fibres the next time I'm camping or at a picnic with friends. ❤️

🧵 1/3 As you told me before, my very first workshop with children (9 yrs old) in our heritage centre was perfect. It was such a joy to experience what most adults suppress: #enthusiasm, #curiosity, #passion to #experiment, thirst for #learning, and #spontaneity. Not that I've been itching to start something new... this garment (probably garments as there's so much yarn) will be based on the sea and stormy skies. Includes my first ball from Noro and a couple each from Malabrigo, Bow Fiddle Yarns and YarnTings. The 3 pictures are sky/sea, rocks/seafloor/creatures and seaweed. I plan to connect scrumbles with Irish crochet!

My favourite part of #freeformcrochet - starting scrumbles with no idea where they are going. All wool is 4-ply in Superwash Merino/nylon from UK independents. The fab red is Furnace by @mothyandthesquid The jacket top is in heavier weight #wool - the bottom has lacier shapes in lighter #yarn. These #scrumbles are pinned to foam/wood blocking boards and wetted. This makes them lie flat for a better finish. Then adding surface work begins!

One yarn I can't get away with is cotton. I had to really force myself to finish this evil eye granny square blanket. It was from Hobbii and 70% off! Was making 2 freeform cushions with leftovers but have hidden them under the bed. I like a bit of give in yarns. Also a super chunky premium acrylic which crocheted up like a board. Never again.
