My first attempt at bead weaving, using the instructions from the below-linked book. Getting started took a few attempts, but once I got a few rows in it was much easier. I'm really enjoying seeing what happens to the pattern as I proceed.

I don't know what I'll do with it. But it's pleasing, slow, tactile work.

Friends, I'm busy organizing my materials today – I finally got new organizers! 🤗 Honestly, sometimes I enjoy sorting and arranging beads even more than creating jewelry itself; it’s so therapeutic. 🥰
​After finishing a piece, I don’t always have the energy to clean up, so my workspace usually ends up in a "creative mess." But with these new boxes, it's going to be so much easier to keep everything in its place!

There’s a stitch in beadweaving called peyote stitch because indigenous Americans used it to decorate their clothing for religious ceremonies involving peyote. The basic stitch is easy, picking up one bead on every stitch. You can stitch it flat or in the round, and with the use of increases and decreases, you can sculpt it into any form you can imagine.

One innovation with peyote stitch is using different sizes of beads organized into diagonal rows. In this case, beaders call this version Cellini peyote stitch. That is the basis for my beaded beads here, which I call Cellini Barrel Beaded Beads. #beadweaving #rainbow #beading #beads

Anyway, this took about some time during breaks, a making then destroying of a prototype, using my 2.0 mm needles as a stabliser, and 42 luminscent acrylic feather beads, but I made this fidget fabric. It's very clicky, flexible, and I made it to mimic bird skin. It also glows in the dark, which pleases my glow in the dark lover soul.

(Also, coincidentally, it's rainbow)

I’m really excited about my current project because RAINBOWS! Also, now that I’m finally liberated from writing my book, I can work on other beading projects without the guilt that I should be finishing the book. (That hung over me for years; crafters’ constipation, anyone?) I already have my next four bead weaving tutorials planned, in various stages of completion. Two are just concepts with sketches, but the other two are much farther along. Here’s a sneak peak at the first one.

These diagrams show how to weave a puffy triangle beaded bead with peyote stitch and seed beads. If you want to make a longer beaded bead, using cellular automata on the sides, I recommend starting and ending that on the rounds of all blue beads.

Nothing brings me joy quite like a new strand of matching beaded beads. After drawing the diagrams for the flat triangle beaded beads, I stitched a whole strand. This strand features 9 different beaded beads in graduated sizes and a rainbow of colors. The largest bead in the center has a design created with cellular automata as described in my new book “Beading with Algorithms: Cellular Automata in Peyote Stitch.” I used the algorithm called Dot Arrays with a cycle of period three. The beads are light and hollow, and they make a pleasing clink when they knock together.

The Trojan Beaders were triumphant at the Beadworkers Guild awards on Saturday night, taking away the Members Choice Prize, voted on by the BWG Members in attendance. #beading #beadworking #making I contributed the 3D printed structure and will be learning how to bead-weave this year for next year's challenge.
