"Quinn the Eskimo (The Mighty Quinn)" (or "#TheMightyQuinn (Quinn the #Eskimo)") is a #folkrock song written and first recorded by #BobDylan in 1967 during #TheBasementTapes sessions. The song's first release was in January 1968 as "Mighty Quinn" in a version by the British band #ManfredMann, which became a great success. It has been recorded by a number of performers, often under the "Mighty Quinn" title. The subject of the song is the arrival of Quinn (an Eskimo).

When I was a child, growing up in #Alaska, my mom was a prolific #painter. She loved the #Eskimo people and became close friends with an older Eskimo woman named Mary who shared her family photo album with my mother. Many of the portraits my mother painted were from Mary's photo album.
My mother passed away more than 30 years ago. Several years ago I created a page on my personal website that is devoted to my mother's art. Several people who were lucky enough to have one of my mother's pieces have reached out to me after googling my mother's name and finding that web page. Many of them have shared photos of their art with me and today I spent quite a lot of time organizing my mother's artwork into this album on flickr.

1/ Ich habe ja irgendwie so einen Bildungsauftrag. Es gibt so eine Quark-Legende über #Inuit (#Eskimo). Angeblich gäbe es in dieser Sprache 400 Wörter für #Schnee. Diese Legende findet sich nun abgewandelt auch in der @tazgetroete. Nur geht es da nicht um die Inuit sondern um die Samen.

My mother was an #artist. We lived in #Alaska and she painted mostly #Eskimo #portraits. One of my mother's close Eskimo friends generously shared her family photos with my mother with permission to paint them and so many of the photographs became the subjects of her portraits.
Here is one that I always loved as a child - it is a portrait of her friend when she was a young mother. My mother remembered how much I loved this painting and gave it to me the last time she visited me in Georgia, just a few years before she died. The portrait is a treasure that has hung on my walls ever since.
My mother died more than 30 years ago.
