Cometary Knots in the Helix Nebula
Within the Helix Nebula, a planetary nebula about 650 light-years away, knots of dust and gas stream away from the central star. Though they appear small here, each contains a mass similar to the Earth’s, spread out over an area larger than Pluto’s orbit. Although the structures’ origins are not fully understood, an enduring hypothesis describes them as a Rayleigh-Taylor instability, where the energetic solar wind from the central star blows away denser gas and dust. Hi folks, as promised, here's one of my first attempts at the Mosaic stacking using the dwarf 3 telescope. I'm not entirely happy with the way that it has turned out, but as a learning process and to give you a look at how things are going I thought I would let you have a look.
I think this could use some reprocessing and I'd like to tinker with it a bit more. Maybe it's one to get some other of my mates with Dwarf3 to do a star party collab with.
But as it is - not unattractive and gives me a feel for how it works. So what we're looking at here is a good wide view at least in terms of how the dwarf 3 does it of the Rho Ophiuchi neighborhood and the nebulas hanging around there.

A very well-known nebula, cataloged by Messier as M16. I thought most of these stars were massive blue main-sequence stars, but it turned out they are not so big, though they are still bigger and brighter than our Sun.

Like an illustration in a galactic Just So Story, the Elephant's Trunk Nebula winds through the emission region and young star cluster complex IC 1396, in the high and far off constellation of Cepheus. Also known as vdB 142, this cosmic elephant's trunk is over 20 light-years long. The detailed telescopic view features the bright swept-back ridges and pockets of cool interstellar dust and gas that abound in the region. But the dark, tendril-shaped clouds contain the raw material for star formation and hide protostars within. Nearly 3,000 light-years distant, the relatively faint IC 1396 complex covers a large region on the sky, spanning over 5 degrees. Top to bottom this proboscidean-like rendition reaches across an almost 1 degree wide field of view, though. That's a little less than the angular size of 2 full moons.

Going to watch Ep. 1 now on #Nebula but have criticised the show in the past for being "the train game" - because they spend so much time on trains and is pretty much the only mode of transport they end up using.
Would still love to see a series which had less reliance on #trains and more hitch-hiking / ride sharing.

Over three nights last week, I shot #M17 over for a total of just over 8 hours.
This #Nebula is known as the #SwanNebula aka the #OmegaNebula aka #LobsterNebula aka #CheckmarkNebula aaaand #NGC6618, which is far, far too many names. Please do me a favour, and don't add to them.
For some reason, my telescope has decided that it is also #IC4701 aka #SH2-44 , but that is actually the fainter, sparser nebula in the top left.
In any event, this rich star forming region also contains several open clusters - #NGC6618 is embedded in M17, but #NGC6596 is in the foreground of SH2-44, and is not part of the star forming region.
Many of the stars are very hot fast burning stars, and they brightly illuminate the clouds of gas and dust.
Shot on a #Dwarf3 with the inbuilt Ha/OIII filter. Postprocessing in #Dwarflab Stellar Studio and #Snapseed .

What causes unusual knots of gas and dust in planetary nebulas? Seen also in the Ring Nebula, the Dumbbell Nebula and NGC 2392, the knots' existence was not initially predicted, and their origins are still not well understood. Pictured here is a fascinating image of part of the Helix Nebula by the James Webb Space Telescope showing tremendous detail in infrared light. The cometary knots have masses similar to the Earth but have sizes typically several times the orbit of Pluto. One hypothesis for the fragmentation and evolution of the knots includes existing gas being driven out by a less dense but highly energetic stellar wind of the central evolving star. The Helix Nebula is one of the closest examples of a planetary nebula created at the end of the life of a Sun-like star. Given a technical designation of NGC 7293, the Helix Nebula lies about 650 light-years away towards the constellation of Water Carrier (Aquarius).

Vaporizing Meteor Photobombs the Lacerta Nebula

What's happening to this meteor? This bright meteor streak appeared and disappeared quickly during a long exposure of the Great Lacerta Nebula, seen faintly in red toward the center of the image. The meteoroid, likely a small pebble, creates its glow partly by heating and exciting surrounding air in Earth's atmosphere, but itself vaporizes and leaves wind-blown gas and dust with colors that give clues to its composition. The featured image was captured last month from Nevada, USA. This month, though, is particularly good for seeing meteors. Presently there are three meteor showers ongoing, although they are currently competing for visibility with the glow of a bright gibbous Moon. The most active of these showers, the Perseids, will be busiest in about 10 days -- after the Moon has dimmed considerably. This year, the Perseids peak nearly coincides with not only a new Moon, but, from some locations, one that totally eclipses the Sun.

I am impressed when I see an over 3 hour video on #Nebula, but no, there is no way I am watching that. I mean well done, I am sure that took some effort, but bloody hell, that's longer than the Odyssey.
