Hey FediFrens, I'm working on some techie stuff to stand up my own website for some of my stuff, and have been meaning to look into using #Glaze & #Nightshade to protect images for a while.

Finally got around to it today, and it seems like it _might_ have been more hype than reality?

Ich habe heute die Glasur Muster Hochbrand - ca. 1200 °C – 1280 °C gebrannt.
Für die interessierten - Ihr seht die Platten aufgereiht, sobald der Brand Vorgang beendet ist, lege ich sie genau so wieder hin, damit ihr sehen könnt, wie sich die Glasur im Ofen verändert.
Auf den Platten habe ich einmal, dann zweimal und dann dreimal auf die gleiche Stelle aufgetragen, um einen Unterschied betreffend Effekt zu sehen.

Today I kiln fired my glazes to test plates for high-temperature firing – approx. 1200 °C – 1280 °C.
For those interested – you can see the plates lined up; as soon as the firing process is finished, I’ll put them back exactly as they are so you can see how the glaze changes in the kiln.
On the plates, I applied the glaze once, then twice, and then three times to the same spot to see a difference in effect. Result:

So recently I've spent some time in pottery class (the wheel throwing kind) - and today I picked up the ones that I had finished.

I'm quite happy! They're very much beginner pieces, but they're MINE, and I had experimented a bit with the glazes and the result was surprising to me!

I was expecting my brushed glaze (the two in front) to be much messier, but it's actually okay (I did miss a spot in the inner rounded bowl. Oh well.) The dark one is also much darker than I expected (it's hard to say it's not black), but I still like it (it's shiny!). The light blue in the back right corner was "dipping the whole thing in glaze and get it out"; it's pretty clean but there's some dripping patterns that I would have preferred not to have. And I knew I had messed up the inner glaze of the back left corner (the glaze didn't reach the rim), and it's indeed not very precise.
I was expecting to prefer the dipped ones still, because I was expecting them to be more uniform, and I find myself liking the hand painted ones better! it requires more practice for sure, though.

I went for another class this morning, and we worked on getting higher/larger pieces - I'll only be firing one of these (the rest ended in the reclaimed clay bucket), but it was fascinating how much larger it's possible to go from... well, basically the same amount of clay (~400g) as these.

I'm having fun!
