Teen Titans: Starfire | Comic Review
Finally, after four books, our team is fully together. Teen Titans: Starfire adds the titular character and Cyborg. It was nice to see the gang all together, so I can’t wait to see what happens in the finale.
Starfire is the character of the Teen Titans that I know the least about, so it was nice to get a full background for her even though I know it’s not her “normal” one. In this story, she’s not an alien but a normal human from California who starts to develop powers.
HIVE continues their attempt at recruiting superpowered teenagers, and this time Starfire and her sister Blackfire are targets. It’s a classic as old as time with one sister being good and one sister being bad.
I liked how Kami Garcia brought the all of our heroes together here. They do make you feel like time is not a stagnate thing in these stories. You can also see once again how the characters relate to the teen audience and go through similar issues.
As with all of the previous books, Gabriel Picolo does a fantastic job with his art in this book. All of the characters are expertly designed and have unique appearances
I’m excited for the finale now! I can’t wait to see how this resolves in Teen Titans: Together
Book: Teen Titans: Starfire
Punisher: DC Comics
Writer: Kami Garcia
Artist: Gabriel Picolo with Rob Haynes
Colorist: David Calderon
Letterer: Wes Abbott

[P] Olly, Green Arrow, can be grumpy, yes. But he's also highly intelligent. He'd realise that provoking Wally with a moronic conapiracy is a big dumb-dumb "idea." And where's Black Canary? Olly would want her input. This is my point, North ruins and pisses on characters in his stories just to have his stupidity escalations. It's annoying. All I can do is beg to get Jeremy Adams reinstated on The Flash. Please, DC?

[P] So! Olly is worried about The Flash going all Minority Report. Does Green Arrow: a.) Bring his concerns quietly to Linda, so that she can sit Wally down with the Minority Report and talk with him about it after; or b.) Have a big, big dumb conspiracy atop a mountain-top out of jealousy? He does the latter, trying his hardest to make Wally feel attacked and insecure. And I've just lost interest in this story, too.

[P] The notion that Doom would have a Magic Children Torture Camp in plain view as a desirable honeypot target is unbelievably stupid. Doom is arrogant, yes, but he isn't that sort of stupid. He's a planner. One World Under Doom fell apsrt for me, there, so I was dreading his run on The Flash. Unfortunately? I was right to dread. It was fine for a while, but I knew North had to go on a road trip to Topsy-Turvia eventually.

[P] The moment he writes a more serious story? His habit to "escalation via stupidity" ruins the story in a way that isn't salvageable. So, caveat lector for spoilers. In One World Under Doom? I don't think it's in character for Doom to be as cartoonishly evil as to exploit children. That's a tier of evil titled 'Jeff Bezos,' and Doom is a fair, fair few down from there. But that isn't the most ludicrous part, irkingly.

[P] I don't find Ryan North's writing compelling. He's way too reliant on what I'd call "escalation via stupidity." In other words, a character behaves in an uncharacteristically moronic way to create escalation. It's always been a writing quirk he's had, but it's intensifying in a way that I find exhausting. If he's writing something silly, like Squirrel Girl or Lower Decks? It works out fine. Foolishness can be comedic.

THE MESS HC
SOLICIT COPY:
When her semi-estranged and penniless hoarder father dies, Erin Messina is tasked with cleaning out his house before the bank forecloses on it. This otherwise thankless task is given a purpose, however, when she remembers the original Picasso drawing her father was gifted in 1964. She enlists her teenage son, Jackson, to spend spring break looking for their possible ticket to long-term financial stability. Jackson, resentful and eager to shirk responsibility, befriends twin skateboarders who live in the hood, and tell him about the violent murder that happened directly across the street from his grandfather’s home — and the murderer who still lives there. Emotional baggage, paranoia, and frayed nerves stretch the Messina’s relationship to the brink, as The Mess careens to a thrilling final act that includes… two-way radio communication with the dead?
Over the past decade, Noah Van Sciver has established himself as the most versatile graphic novelist working today. Whether it be in the service of straight-up satire (Fante Bukowski, Beat It, Rufus!), serious historical nonfiction (Joseph Smith and the Mormons, The Hypo: The Melancholic Young Lincoln), autobiography (As a Cartoonist, One Dirty Tree), or books for younger readers (Calamity Before Jane, Johnny Appleseed), Van Sciver’s singular voice and style has proven remarkably malleable to the needs of each project. With The Mess, Van Sciver stakes yet new creative ground as a fiction writer, crafting the most magnetic and literary work of his career. The Mess is a brilliant, original graphic novel infused with drama, laughs, pathos, and suspense, beautifully drawn and colored in Van Sciver’s immersive and intimate style.

DEICIDIUM vol. 1: Returned
SOLICIT COPY:
In a future rebuilt from the ashes of war, belief is no longer sacred — it’s monetized.
Humanity has entered a hard-won age of stability, governed by an unholy alliance between global corporations and newly engineered religions. Worship fuels the economy. Faith is power. Salvation is a product. Welcome to the industry of belief. That fragile balance shatters when the old gods return. Ancient deities of fire, wind, jaguars, love, war, and mischief awaken inside ordinary people, transforming neighbors and strangers into living gods. To the powers that be, they aren’t miracles — they’re threats.
The great faiths of the new world knew the old gods could one day return, and they planned for such an eventuality. 12 orphans were chosen, bestowed with gifts and taught to be faithless, loveless instruments without reward or remorse. The old gods have returned — and the 12 will be unleashed.
As old myths collide with a world built on manufactured faith, a brutal conflict ignites — one that will decide who controls humanity’s future, and whether salvation comes from those placed above us… or from within us.
With The Mess, Van Sciver stakes yet new creative ground as a fiction writer, crafting the most magnetic and literary work of his career.
DEICIDIUM is a global epic series from the multi-award-winning collaborations of Ram V, Evan Cagle, Anand Radhakrishnan with Tom Muller, Aditya Bidikar and more.

Comics superstars Scott Snyder and Sanford Greene present the hidden past of the being called Uxus , his descent into Darkseid, and his plans for the fate of all creation ! It’s DC’s premier villain as you’ve never seen him before, by the biggest names in comics, in DC All In Saga: Darkseid vs. the World!
DEICIDIUM is a global epic series from the multi-award-winning collaborations of Ram V, Evan Cagle, Anand Radhakrishnan with Tom Muller, Aditya Bidikar and more.
