  1. Analysis of seawater for DNA of rare and endangered hammerhead sharks has been used to infer their presence or absence at multiple locations throughout their range. No sharks were captured or observed; accuracy of the inferred distributions depends on the presumed degradation of environmental DNA in hours or days.

  2. Pleased to see this published (and open access) - I’ve been contributing to this #ForestResearch / #HuttonInstitute led project for over 5 years (with most of the co-authors even longer):

  3. Our second blog post hutton.ac.uk/blog/edna-in-the- profiling #HuttonInstitute scientists and close collaborators working with #EnvironmentalDNA (#eDNA) is now live.

This time featuring Beth Moore, Eulyn Pagaling, David Roberts, and from #ForestResearch, Sarah Green.

  4. Environmental DNA lets us detect species, but DNA moves & persists in the environment, so a DNA detection may not represent a local, living individual. Our #NewPaper (led by Léonie Suter) uses different DNA fragment lengths to distinguish recently-shed from older krill eDNA
