It used to be that is you had a heavy wax buildup in your ears, your doctor or a nurse or PA would clean it out for you.

But starting about ten years ago, that changed. Now they just tell you to buy an ear-cleaning kit with fluid from a pharmacy and do it yourself.

At least, that's how it is in the USA now. I wonder if it's like that in other parts of the world?

As a hard of hearing person #Covid hit my communication skills and my wallet. In 3 years we’ve drifted into a situation where ear wax is no longer routinely removed at GP surgeries. I paid £50 an ear to get them microsuctioned in 2020 and 2021 lockdowns because I could no longer hear my own children and I was desperate. It sounds trivial, but without #NHS #EarWax removing services hard of hearing people are silenced.
