    Great article

This bit could help if it were more well known:

⚠️ 👂🏽 Sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSHL) causes severe hearing loss and deafness (usually in one ear), tinnitus and sensitivity to sound

The damage is normally permanent unless treated with steroid injections at a hospital as soon as possible 👂🏽

The only preventable hearing-loss with a countdown I’ve ever heard of ⏰

Anyone else having #tinnitus around 18kHz? Mine is 9kHz, I never knew it could be as high as @mattly is seeing.

  13. three new phenomena in my #tinnitus today:
    - pulsing, normally it’s a constant tone
    - a tone that’s a higher frequency than I can normally hear; I tested this with a sine wave and my monitors at “potential structural damage to the house” levels and it’s about 18kHz; normally the tones are closer to 11kHz
    - a tone that shifts frequency subtly, randomly

all in my right ear. these happen exclusively to each other

of course, the internet has nothing to offer about this, aside from crazy theories, and of course, insurance doesn’t cover audiology (though if it did I’m sure we as a society would have much lower rates of dementia)

  18. I wanted to ask the Fediverse, has anyone here dealt with pulsative tinnitus? I’ve had it off and on for two months, not severe, only when I am sleeping at certain points. My ear doc has run hearing tests and said that I could get an MRI if I would like. Maybe it’s time to do so, and also get to know a cardiologist just because I’m not a kid anymore.

He thinks I may have otosclerosis, which that doesn’t worry me. But it’s the same ear.

I don’t have high blood pressure, quite the opposite.

    Anyway, I’m a little nervous. Thank you. #fediask #tinnitus

  23. Public Service Announcement. If you enjoy music, spend most of your time at your computer and is maybe is dealing with tinnitus and hearing loss...

A proper set of desktop speakers might be the best gift for your self in decades. It was for me 🕺

Tinnitus isn't going anywhere. But with proper audio, I'm able to treat it like that chatty guy at a concert and almost tune him out.

    Thank you, musicians ❤️

  28. I need to reconsider my music system. I can't play music because the forking internet is down. I do NOT accept such a dependency.

I need music to drown out the #tinnitus.

  33. The #tinnitus I've had since a gig last autumn isn't so bad. Mostly I don't think about it at all. But it's really noticeable when I wake up. A thin but very loud treble beep, poor treble hearing on my right ear. It soon recedes when I get up.
