The Itsumade isn’t actually a dragon but I thought I would share my #linocut while we share dragon art for #Smaugust. A supernatural creature from Japanese folklore called a kaichō, or strange or eerie bird, the Itsumade has a human face with sharp beak-like mouth, fearsome claws with talons as sharp as swords, wings and the body of a snake. This terrifying yōkai or spirit appears in the night sky in when there has been too little done to 🧵

Not all owls are what they seem.
There is a yōkai (妖怪) in Japan known as a 'Tatarimokke' (祟り蛙 lit. 'cursed infant'). These 'owls' have been possessed by the spirit of a dead baby or young child, and will stay close to the family home.

I looked towards the castle and saw black dots growing larger by the second. It was too late to escape, so I did the only thing possible: I hopped into the basket.
“Clicky, clack, crolark.” It was cramped and smelled nasty in there. The only saving grace was that I could peer through the #warped weave.
Mistress draped a kimono sleeve over the basket, and my panic swelled. I had to use the human portion of my brain to force it down, reminding myself that if I struggled, I would damage my wings and feathers.
“Ack!!!” I cawed.
“Quiet! They’ll hear you!”
This was hard. I considered sticking my head out. That would make things much better. Then I heard a jumble of large-bills cawing.
“I don’t recognise her,” cawed the first voice.
“She's an outsider,” responded a second voice.
“I sense magic. Has a kitsune possessed her?” asked a third jungle crow.
“We must tell the Lady,” the second large-billed cawed.
“Clicktoo, look for a kitsune,” a commanding voice said. “The rest of you fly to the Lady and inform her a spirit summoner lurks in the town. I’ll watch her and come later.”
There was the sound of wings and then silence.
“Ha ha,” I thought. “My mistress is so smart! We showed those stupid spawn of a cowbird.”
I peeked out between the willow lathes and saw we were moving down the road. That explained the basket’s rocking. Up and down, I bounced, knocking against the sides. It was all I could do not to swear or say, “Stop that, you lumbering ox!”

Similar to Amabie, Yogen-no-tori (ヨゲンノトリ) appeared prior to the outbreak of disease, promising protection if its image was displayed.
The prophetic creature, which appeared near Ishikawa Prefecture, looked like a 2-headed crow (1 of them white).

Ma… ga… ga… mi... I remembered Ume’s stories about cursed truths and blocked it out as best I could. I was about to grab a branch when Kan-chan pulled on my arm.“We don’t have time! Come on! The Lake!” Kan-chan yelled.
I followed Kan-chan’s gaze where arms were rising from the center of the lake. It was the most terrifying thing to happen to me since the Red Door. I stood frozen as the arms moved toward the shore and heads emerged. The wind whispered Ma… ga… ma… gi… sama.

Thinking more about #Nintendo's #PalWorld #lawsuit, which claims that many of the mechanics, such as the #PalBall, are too similar to #Pokemon's mechanics, like the #PokeBall.
Wondering if it would be a good idea for #PocketPair to take a cue from #BugSnax, and replace the "ball" with a cyllindrical "trap". Perhaps they can take inspiration from #GhostBusters, and have some sort of energy based trap which opens at the top and sucks the magic monsters in. They should definitely be leaning hard into the #MonsterCollecting genre's roots of #Yokai, #Spirit entities, and #mythological #cryptids.
They might be able to avoid some damages if they lose this or have to settle in a few years by just changing up a few aesthetics, and I think the game itself would benefit from this: I personally think the Pal Ball looks odd and out of place as a mechanic, like it's just there to copy Pokemon.
Then again, changing things might be an admission of guilt? I'm not a lawyer.

I've watched every episode and film (live action and animated) of GeGeGe no Kitarō. My favourite animated version is Hakaba Kitarō. My favourite live action are the two TV movies made in 1985 and 1987. You can check out the different anime versions in this article.

Sur la photo, dans le train #Yōkai en route vers #SakaiMinato, une de mes nièces lit « À l'intérieur de #Kitaro » de #ShigeruMizuki (publié en français aux #ÉditionsCornélius). La banquette sur laquelle elle est assise est décorée avec les personnages du #manga.
