In most Warhammer 40K #ttrpg campaigns, characters tend to move from world to world. But I have come to the conclusion that I do my best GMing when I run my campaigns in a fairly restricted area which the PCs can explore in detail.

Out of curiosity, has anyone run a #Warhammer40K (preferably #DarkHeresy) campaign set on a single planet?

In most Warhammer 40K #ttrpg campaigns, characters tend to move from world to world. But I have come to the conclusion that I do my best GMing when I run my campaigns in a fairly restricted area which the PCs can explore in detail.

Just played in the final session of our Dark Heresy campaign, a race to prevent various opposing factions from using a device to summon the Tyrant Star for nefarious purposes.

I do not think my comrades appreciated Merik (my character) suddenly deciding to help Erasmus Harlock open a giant mirror built into the superstructure of a hive city, killing millions of people.

Anyway, Merik got to retire to oversee a rogue trader's private library, so happy ending.

Last week, my PC (bookish Adept) noticed that the party tech-priest seemed left out of our investigations, so decided to help them do what *they* wanted for a change.

A little later, we've hijacked a helicopter and crashed it into the top of the Arbites command tower, only to find a dusty room with a broken mirror, the daemon secretly possessing my friend screaming "what have you done?! You're too early!"

So the GM is taking an extra week to fix the plot.

I wasn't planning to post another #tiefling quite so soon, but I was at a friend's place playing in a #DarkHeresy game last weekend and the session was being dominated by another PC's family politics, so I just got to drawing...

I draw too many characters with the same bland expression ('serene' if I'm feeling nice to myself), so I tried for a more energetic expression this time. I may have gone too far towards 'manic' though.

Day 18: Favorite Game System

Gonna call back to a previous post in this thread and say the whole fantasy flight warhammer 40k roleplay ecosystem is probably my favorite.

It has a ton of options once you merge them all together. DH 2e character creation is super flexible. The aptitude system is a little confusing but gives you a lot of freedom in builds.

It got the gear porn. You can get all kinds of Mark Whatever lasguns to fit your exact niche. It has rules for starships and social challenges and exploration and almost everything.

I *like* bit and bobs and granularity and rules for everything. Hand wavy 'rulings not rules' or 'well how does your table want it to work?' as core systems tenets are annoying to me.

Now. Don't be thinking I'm some joyless ice queen. I'm an ice queen with a healthy media diet and I'd be lying if I said we didn't have humorous *moments* in my games.

So, finally, to get the the GAME this post is about, I think I'm going to go Dark Heresy and it's ilk again. 40k has parody in it's DNA and you can't get away from it entirely. Where else can you explode someone's head with a laser, their headless body catches fire and runs through their teammates, setting them on fire and cooking off all their ammo and grenades??
