The mix of summer sun, lack of good sleep and maybe a hint of indigestion led to the creation of another drawing yesterday, finishing today.
It's a tiefling (or other slightly-devilish lady of fantasy) enjoying the summer sun!
Possibly a little *too* bright and summery for my usually more sombre tastes, but this is how the colours chose to come out, so I suppose it's out of my hands.

It feels fitting to make my first post here the first dnd character I ever played. This is my boy Lucas, the green tiefling fighter who grew up in a swamp, is a cartographer by trade, had a brief stint as the navigator for some pirates (which he knew nothing about and canonically managed to accidentally point them in the right direction a lot) and ended up in a ragtag team of adventurers at Candlekeep for a few years.

Meet Zagrea Afxbis.
Six generations ago, a young Tiefling named Urxikas Afxbis was playing dice in a loud bar and caught another player cheating. He called it out. There was a scuffle. The scuffle became a brawl. The brawl became a full-room catastrophe -- everyone involved, furniture flying, chaos wall to wall.
Everyone except the Green Hag sitting alone in the far corner.
Urxikas got thrown across the room and landed near her. Scrambling up, he stepped on her pack. Something inside shattered. She screamed. The whole bar went quiet.
She walked up to him slowly. Got close. And in a voice barely above a whisper, she told him exactly what she thought of him and every red-blooded, tail-dragging devilspawn that would come after him. Then she blew a handful of sand in his eyes and walked out.
That was six Afxbisses ago. The curse has been passed down faithfully through every generation. Uncontrollable magic. Skin that changes color every time a spell fires -- bright green after poison, bright red after fire, eight colors counted so far, possibly more to come. The Afxbis line has learned, generation to generation, how to ride the magic, how to keep it from swallowing them whole. The skin, they never figured out.
Somehow, Zagrea is a happy guy. Charismatic, warm, a little prone to exaggeration when he's telling stories. He finds joy in most things. Most people like him immediately.
But spend enough time with him and you'll see it -- something behind the eyes. Something that doesn't quite rest. He keeps moving because standing still was never really an option. He wasn't welcome most places, growing up. So he kept walking, kept adventuring, and somewhere along the way started looking for something that resembles peace.
He hasn't found it yet. His powers are getting stronger by the day.

He attacks from range and relies on his arcane knowledge when his spells don't cooperate. He can will his bare hands to strike like a club, dagger, or handaxe, and can summon a vibrant shield of light from his own arms when pressed. He is a lifelong adventurer, a walking folk legend, and arguably the most colorful person in the room -- sometimes literally.

If my last drawing was an experiment in drawing glossy material, then this drawing is about blacks. A black dress drenched in midnight—purely a shape—and 'black' hair, which must be anything but.
So really its about the components: the black dress, the warm lighting and shadows, the iridescent black hair and the shimmering wings.
Does it work though?

An experiment: I've been wanting to improve how I draw glossy/shiny materials, so the focus here is on the dress.
Honestly I think my artstyle favours matte materials and flat colours; too much highlighting and texturing can wreck a perfectly good piece of line-art. But I can't improve if I never try new techniques.
So a question: does it look good?

Well it's Valentine's Day, which is always an excuse to draw something a little romantic.

Lucky deal with the tiefling devil? 💰
For this tiefling miniature from @dm.stash I used a dark and cool color palette using greenish and blueish tones and silver for the highlights to make it look more elegant. I was thinking of basing with lava but then I wanted to make it look that he walks overground on earth looking for his next victim to deal with.

Slightly more seriously, I think I'm fairly happy with how this one came out, though as usual I had lots of conflicting thoughts about colour schemes. I think I reined back my worst excesses... this time.
