my favorite example of Veilguard Writing is when you're on a quest in the woods and the exposition elf goes "i've heard of a spirit haunting these woods... the gods stole its dreams. so now, it steals other people's dreams..."
and immediately afterwards, a spirit by the name of nocturnix pops out and wails - and this is verbatim - "my dreams! where have they gone?"
just. absurdly on the nose. subtlety is dead and we killed it

I installed #DragonAge Origins today, and played for a bit. I haven't' been back to this game in a long time... at least a decade (more?), which is a long time for being one of my favorite games of all time.
It's been so long that I no longer have every map memorized (but they're all very familiar).
I don't know if I'll finish any run, but I started my two favorites (An elf mage, and a human noble). My wife ir probably gonna make a Dwarf Princess again now that I've run the installer for her

holy shit dragon age origins is SO much easier as a dual wield rogue
like my only other playthrough was as a 2H warrior and involved me missing 5 out of 6 attacks i attempted and it was HELL

DA:O especially, particularly with Sten who needed to be actively brought to places that triggered comments to get anything out of him, but DA:I had some of this too with Cole & discovering his 'pranks'.
Veilguard OTOH is purely formulaic - every companion quest progresses in the same way & ends with the player making one of two choices for them.

As a nonbinary trans person I love trans representation, but Veilguard's nonchalant inclusion of nonbinary people still bugs me. Because it's like... *where* did Harding learn what a gender fluid person is? It doesn't seem like there's a vibrant queer culture in the DA setting like there is IRL, and modern queer terminology is the product of decades of queer culture. It's like the identities exist, but none of the surrounding cultural context does.

fucking hell i was getting sick of all the companion missions and side content i was doing in the veilguard so i was like "ok let's break it up with a main story quest or two" but nope the next main story quest was just a meeting warning me that i was about to enter the endgame
