Slowly making way to the finish line of #RPGaDay2023 with a write-up of my most memorable encounter from the past year: "The Offer" chapter of the @lairofsecrets #CyberpunkRED campaign.

Slowly finishing up #RPGaDay2023. Today's post: Scariest Game You've Played.
Answer? #callofcthulhu

And for today's RPG a Day 2023, 12)!
Old game that I still play... That is a very good question, as most of the games I play are quite recent. I imagine that Call of Chtulhu counts as old, but I play 7th so maybe not, hahaha.
#RPGaDay2023 -
And RPG a Day continues (for me, as I only post whenever I find some time at work) so... Today is 11) Weirdest game I've played.
That is a very good question. To be honest, I think the most "normal" game I play is Legend of the 5 Rings 5e, the rest of the games I usually DM go from Call of Chtulhu to Numenera to Into the Odd so... Mostly on the weird end of the spectrum.
But I think the weirdest one (and most bizarre) was a JoJo's Bizarre Adventure I ran for my friends in 2020 for a year. I used the Cypher System, modified it a bit and made a "sequel" to Steel Ball Run in the 1960s, where one of the players was J(Joestar)FK and his top security man (William Greer, another player) had prophetic dreams about the demise of JJFK. Turns out that the Majestic 12, the Serpent People (it acted as a sequel of sorts of the campaign The Two Headed Serpent from Chtulhu Pulp where most of the MJ12 are the alternate bad incarnations of the PCs of the other campaign), the guild of Assassins (who had a member infiltrated on the PCs' group) and a part of the US Government wanted him dead.
Every PC had a Stand, most enemies had one, there were also vampires and I basically mixed every conspiracy theory I know.
It was weird, indeed.

Now that #rpgaday2023 is over? What now? ;) #ttrpg I like #3kernals
1) the beer no longer makes drinkers drunk.
2) the book covers in the library are all wrong.
3) sheep are running around town 'demanding' their fur back.

#rpgaday #rpgaday2023 day 29
Most memorable encounter
It was with a dragon in an urban fantasy game, which we were trying to prevent from getting his hands on a very powerful magic item, an orb permitting to control ALL Dragons.
He was accompanied by yuki-ona, an Asian kind of vampire (which we didn't know).
The encounter changed when we realised the beautiful lady felt Hunger for the dragon and was manipulating him, and was the actual real danger 😄 -
August may have ended, but not RPG a Day 2023 (at least for me)! For entry 10) I will nominate a bit cheekily... The Shadowrun Trilogy from Harebrained Schemes and Baldur's Gate 3 from Larian games.
Yes, I know. Those are 4 games, but I do not usually read tie in fiction (to be honest, my next "choice" would have been The Avatar the last airbender series).
So, the games. The Shadowrun ones are great and without all the fuss of the TTRPG. Good story, good characters, not very long, crunchy quests, good systems. Really recommend them!
As for BG3, I am still on Act 1 as I am playing with a friend and I cannot advance as much as I want on my solo game either. Such is life.

RPG A Day 2023 - Sorry that I could not continue after day 17, but a wonderful puppy arrived in my family and instantly set all rules (and minds) on fire. 🤣
At least I owe you a pic of this happy and georgeous little creature.

Day 31 at #RPGaDAY2023 #ttrpg
"Favorite RPG of all time?"
We kinda did this already with a "Favorite game system", didn't we?
I really enjoy #TrailofCthulhu by @pelgranepress. Despite its flaws, games like #DnD are here as solid backups in a case I want to run something everyone is kinda-sorta familiar with.

Day 30 at #RPGaDAY2023 #ttrpg
"Most obscure RPG you've played?"
#DangerPatrol is a simple and short #pulp #SF game by @johnharper where you play characters in the vein of old sci-fi movies and movie serials. It is fun and funny, and great for one-shot games.
The second one is #InaWickedAge, a game by @lumpleygames in which you play sword and sorcery heroes, or gods, or magic items! A bit abstract at first, but interesting.

Day 29 at #RPGaDAY2023 #ttrpg
"Most memorable encounter?"
Uh, it's hard to think of any, especially since the question doesn't specify what kind of encounter we're talking about: a random combat encounter, a big battle, social encounter, memorable villain, monster or NPC?
-
I will do @eladhen 's #SeptembeRPG. I find the prompts more interesting than #RPGaDay2023 's.
1. Great ttrpg 1st played this year.
I don't have anything in that category. And the two last great games I played before 23 are unpublished. And before that, I am not so sure. So I'll fall back to #CityOfMist which I started in April 22, which is really great and my 22's game of the year. Campaign starting back next week, I can't wait!
It will also fit quite nicely with prompt #2 🙂

#RPGADAY2023 day 31. Favourite #RPG of all time.
I'll say Spirit of 77 by Monkeyfun Studios, as it's captured my imagination since it came out, but really, there's no telling what obsession my future gaming experiences will result in.

#RPGaDay2023 continued (again)
I'll stop now(ish) but there are lots and lots of other games I could say nice things about
Hong Kong Action Theatre, AFMBE, Dark Conspiracy, Conspiracy X, Nights Dark Agents, CP2020, Deadlands, L5R, Forgotten Futures and even a little known game called D&D
-
#RPGaDay2023 continued
Over the Edge for opening a vista of system possibilities
Golden Sky Stories for doing that again
GURPS for the source books (but please don't make me play it)
Call of Cthulhu for being there every month for years
What's So Daring about Sky Pirates for being fun during the pandemic (and I'm sure since)
SLA Industries for being dark, British satire

#RPGaDay2023 Day 31: Favourite RPG?
Going to fail at the final hurdle here. I don't have a favourite. There I games I really like for different reason.
Feng Shui 2 for getting a flavour of action RPG right
The Cthulhu Hack for letting me do a particular kind of horror without it being Ravenloft
Buck Rogers in the XXVC for sentimental reasons
7th Sea 1st edition for getting a different kind of action RPG just right
Paranoia for being first I played

31. FAVORITE RPG of all time
It is a tossup between Burning Wheel and Ironsworn. Both puts responsibility in the players' hands to actively shape the narrative through their beliefs/vows. Also both systems are clear on the outcome space from tests, task+intent/move results.
Buuuuut Ironsworn is slowly winning over time. It just runs smoother. So IRONSWORN if one, and only one, has to be named.

#rpgaday #rpgaday2023 day 27:
New edition of a game:
None.
I'd prefer new games.
All the games from the nineties and early 2000 I played then and wished for a new edition have gotten one.
TORG got one, mutant chronicles a big one too, star wars D6 still gets new fan made editions, Deadlands is alive and kicking (or a Manitou animates its publishing line)
There are two fringe games I might wanna see a new edition of:
Whispering vault & Agone (a french game out of print and unfindable for cheap) -
Day 25 "Unplayed RPG you own" #RPGaDAY2023 #ttrpg
I got a whole bunch of them - even if I don't include PDFs.
I'd like to try #Mothership, #Mouseritter, and #FrontierScum. I actually had the PDFs printed, that's how much I'm impressed!
I also own beautiful RPG books by @modiphius, like #Fallout RPG and core books for #AchtungCthulhu. I'm still not sure about the 2d20 system - it seems like the basic mechanic is needlessly complicated? - but this makes me more eager to try them one day.

Favourite CHARACTER SHEET?
Boy, you do ask some questions!
Generally, the simpler, the better. It dosen't tax my poor brain too much.
This character sheet can be generated with a single click an there are up to 40 characters on it!

18. Favorite Game System.
#TinyD6. I have so many of their games. I've run #TinyFrontiers a few times. Still want to run a bunch of the others. #RPGaDay #RPGaDay2023 -
Die #RPGaDay2023 Antwort (16) RPG I wish I owned? #pnpde

#RPGaDAY2023 Day 17: I've ran and played many games and many game sessions that were fun, as in smart, thrilling, hilarious, but right off the top of my head, I'd say the funniest game I have in mind is a very recent one I run: #TheGoodPlace with #DramaSystem. The Drama scenes were so witty and clever, wild and crazy, and I had to put my microphone on mute so many times as I was laughing so loudly! What a game! #ttrpg #rpg #jdr #Hillfolk @pelgranepress @robindlaws @foundryvtt #RPGaDAY

15) favorite con MODULE / ONE-SHOT
I don’t go to cons and, perhaps as a result, haven’t played many one-shots, but my favorite one-shot so far has to be Hester‘s Mill for #TrophyGold by #JasonCordova. So many great moments, a dark and mysterious atmosphere and the feeling of a large and unknown world in the great beyond, fraught with danger and, well … gold! 😁
Second place is „Die Nacht der Toten“ for #Splittermond. I might convert it to a rules light system at some point.

6. I love #13thAge (https://www.drivethrurpg.com/browse.php?filters=45211_0_0_0_0), #ShadowOfTheDemonLord (https://www.drivethrurpg.com/browse.php?filters=45587_0_0_0_0) and #WarhammerFRP’s second edition (https://www.drivethrurpg.com/browse/pub/54/Cubicle-7-Entertainment-Ltd/subcategory/179_4943/Warhammer-Fantasy-Roleplay-2nd-Edition). Choosing between them is like choosing between children… who you also don't play with. 🤔
I hear #WHFRP 4e is fairly close to 2e, but I’ve not had time to look into it, sadly, and it also strikes me as a bit premium-pricy anyway—not something I can do much anymore.

#RPGaDay2023 Day 5:
Unless I've forgotten something, that was probably a #DSA4 one-shot we played at a small con once (I think it was at the #HeldenCon in #Marchtrenk (near #Linz/ #Wels), #Austria - must have been around 2018).
I usually tend to play new(er) games, just because I don't have a long running group and most PUGs offer current systems.
There's old-school stuff in it, though. And did I tell you I had my first-ever round of actual #dnd (any ed.!) only two months ago? 😯

Day 4 at #RPGaDay2023
Most recent game bought?
Most recently, I bought the game Tiny Pirates. It is one of the several #TinyD6 products I own.
While this game specifically is oriented towards playing 17th century pirates, the system is flexible enough that there are versions for playing #Cthulhu games, #western, #Fantasy, and so on.
While I still haven't actually ran a TinyD6 game, I am... cautiously optimistic about this.
-
#RPGaDAY2023 day 3: My first purchase ever was #PFRPG (no surprise if you read my last two days).
This year I'm not exactly sure - I bought multiple starter boxes in the first months of this and the end of last year to have more of the popular RPGs to try out (and have a broad selection of them available for the beginner groups I sometimes do).
It could actually be #pf2e 😂, but also #Hexxen1733 , #dnd5e, #CyberpunkRED or #TheOneRing
-
#RPGaDAY2023 day1:
My first #RPG was #Pathfinder in the mid-2010s. My getting in contact with it was two-fold: I became aware of #ttrpg late (in my 30s), asked in a game store how my gf and I could try and they told me of starter boxes. #PFRPG just because it was the only one available then and there.
Not much later, some #mmorpg friends started an online group (also newbies, but they had just built a simple web #vtt as a hobby project 😲) and by pure accident that was also in PF.
