@OccasionalDucks
They’re both Irish ☘️🙀 but I’d really give Cormac Begley a listen

I linked above to his bass concertina record (shaped like a concertina 😻)

And Padraig Rynne, another astonishingly creative player I wouldn’t want anybody to miss from your list there
https://padraigrynne.bandcamp.com/

It’s not an #accordion but most people don’t know that so wth?

@OccasionalDucks
Not sure why you’re working with the “No Irish Allowed” 🙃 constraint

Otherwise I’d suggest some Lankum and the #concertina shaped records by Cormac Begley

@smashtie @OccasionalDucks
Mohsen Amini from Talisk and Ímar would be my other suggestion 🤯

If you hunt around you may find a copy of the 2005 “Anglo International” 3-CD compilation

It’s great. There was also an English International version a bit later

Here’s a saved archive of their old website:

Do any trad/folk music fans out there have recommendations for Anglo concertina players/albums to listen to?

I’m aware of/have access to the classic William Kimber and Scan Tester recordings and a bit of Jody Kruskal, and obviously the other/“real” JK (.i. John Kirkpatrick)(alongside his BCA and melodeons). And let me just say *not* Irish please!

Tempted by the idea of having a go at Maccann duet concertina. I should not do this, but…

By the way: it's Bandcamp Friday today, so go and purchase your wishlisted albums!

My warm recommendation this time is "Bird Songs" by Miranda Rutter. Inspired by birds and dotted withh beautiful snippets of field recordings, it feels like an hommage to our avian friends. A delightful album that made me laugh and cry. A beautiful match for spring time 🐦

@soundclamp
That’s great stuff about the “spicy unison” buttons tuned to the same note but slightly different so you can hear the sound beating in the recording

That’s the kind of thing I tend to do when I sit down with an instrument. My guilty secret is I can’t really play the accordion, I just play other people doing it on the radio

But I’ve built up an ear and the curiosity to mess about like this for hours

Electronic #Concertina what a treat 🎛️

I’ll have to write and ask what kind of concertina she plays and more of her story

I submitted a couple of heavy #accordion and #bass #concertina tracks to this week’s #ListeningClub

Which I might have hinted at (but not played) on this week’s episode of @accordionnoir radio

So some vague spoilers but only enough to get you ready for Sunday

And oh my gosh, have I got a record for next week. Should be a hoot

A little more progress in the new studio today. I spent the morning searching through boxes and cupboards trying to find some guitar hangers which I knew I had somewhere. Finally managed to find them and put them up this afternoon, so I've got space to downsize from an 8-guitar rack to a 5-guitar rack, and make some space for some of my diatonic accordions.
