How ‘#climateflation’ will change the way we eat
The term ‘climateflation’ refers to the rising cost of living caused by the climate crisis. Fundamentally, disruptions to agriculture have an impact on how much people have to fork out for food. #Extremeweather causes short-term price shocks, but hotter average temperatures cause food inflation spikes that can last up to 12 months, according to Kotz’s research from last year

Climateflation = Der #Klimawandel macht u. a. Lebensmittel teurer. #Climateflation in Aktion.
Wer sich jetzt fragt: „Frost?? Klimawandel??“ Jupp!

"#Climateflation' is all too real & numbers are striking" said Gernot Wagner climate economist at Columbia Biz School. "Climateflation doesn't just affect food prices, its effects reverberate through to core inflation" noting the 1%+ increase to inflation https://buff.ly/3x7MbIZ

#ClimateDiary Nothing positive here but I do feel slightly vindicated in that, when i did a few posts about #Climateflation a while ago, many responded that it was wrong to even talk about this as it was the narrative of those trying to hide the effects of #Brexit and #greedflation. Yes these (and war etc) are hugely important too in rising food prices - nothing is monocausal - but good to recognise and start talking about #Climateflation too.

Today in Phoenix: >110F (>43°C) for 30th day in a row. Climate adaptation is painful, and costly.

#ClimateDiary yesterday we heard that #UK inflation is still at 10.1%, food prices at *19%*. This is due to a combination of factors, including of course #Brexit, but also increasingly the #ClimateCrisis impacting growers and suppliers, and it’s important to highlight and recognise this. I like @PositiveMoneyUK’s term #ClimateFlation
