CW: Mobbing, Gewalt, Deadnamimg
Mein Name ist keine Laune und kein Trend.
Er ist für mich Schutz.Mit 14 habe ich die Schule gewechselt und wollte bereits damals meinen Namen ändern,
in der Hoffnung, dass das Mobbing und die Gewalt aufhören würden.
Diese Namensänderung wurde mir nicht erlaubt.Zwei Jahre später kaufte ich mir ein Modem.
In dieser Szene fand ich erstmals Freundschaften, in denen ich einfach angenommen wurde, wie ich bin. Dort wurde ich nicht mehr mit meinem alten, für mich toten Namen angesprochen.
Einige dieser Freundschaften bestehen bis heute.Mein alter Name ist für mich mit jahrelangem Mobbing, körperlicher Gewalt und einem Messerangriff verknüpft. Wenn dieser Name heute ausgesprochen wird, werden diese Erfahrungen im Körper wieder aktiviert – nicht nur in Gedanken.
Hinzu kommt:
Mit meinem alten Namen wird mir zugleich ein falsches Geschlecht zugeschrieben.
Das bedeutet, ich werde nicht nur an Gewalt erinnert, sondern auch in meiner Identität verfehlt.
Darum ist mein neuer Name so wichtig. Er steht für Sicherheit, Würde und Selbstbestimmung.Niemand muss jede Entscheidung anderer gut finden. Aber respektvolle Ansprache ist kein Entgegenkommen, sondern eine Grundform von Anerkennung.

Today I learned that #slack saves a „username“ field for your account and doesn’t tell you ANYTHING about that. This lead to my #deadname being #leaked today.
So…
a #queer space I’m in is using Slack as a communication platform. Due to various concerns we wanted to switch to Matrix.Our IT had put up a Slack-Matrix #bridge to ease the shift away from Slack.
Turns out this bridge was using a „username“ field that slack had previously depreciated in favor of display names.
As I had joined a Slack years ago before my #transition it must’ve created this username from my email back then, which contained my deadname.
When I transitioned I changed my email and the „Full name“ field on all the slack instances I was on.
I joined that queer Slack space after this and it must’ve just copied over that original username.
THE USERNAME FIELD WAS NOT SHOWN ANYWHERE. It was completely #hidden.
And now the Slack-Bridge had leaked my deadname via the username into our new Matrix space.
Dear Slack Developers/Team,
WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK?!FOR ANYONE WHO WANTS TO CHANGE THIS NAME:
- Go to the slack web app (I couldn’t find it on mobile)
- Click on the profile picture on the bottom left and click on „Profile“
- Click on the tree dots next to „Set a status“ and „View as“
- Go to „Account Settings (external link)“
- Scroll all the way down (UNDER „Deactivate account“!?!)
- Click „expand“ on the „Username“ section
- Change your username and click „Save“

Me when I first got into the scene: Gosh, it's going to take a lot for me to get used to my scene name! What if I never learn to answer to it? 😟
Me now when people say my scene name: Yes! Hi! That's me! 😊
Me now when people use my legal name: ...Wait...Right, I'm supposed to answer to this... 🙄
I think I enjoy being called a name that I got to choose for myself more than a name my parents chose for me and that I never liked anyway.
