Ich hab gestern damit angefangen den Menschen um mich herum mitzuteilen, mit welchem Vornamen (gender neutral) sie mich demnächst ansprechen sollen.
Das große Fazit:
Wir müssen noch viel lernen...

1) "Meine Mitbewohnerin wird dich weiterhin mit deinem alten Namen ansprechen. Sie ist halt schon alt (knapp 60...). Alte Gehirne funktionieren nicht mehr so gut. weißt du?"
Ich:"Ok, ich werde dann einfach nicht drauf reagieren. Weil... Das ist halt nicht mein Name."
"Bitte mach keine Szene, lass es einfach so laufen!"
Nein! Werde ich nicht! Neben dem falschen Namen, impliziert es auch noch das falsche Geschlecht!
2) "Was für ein bescheuerter Name! Damit wirste dann überall rausgezogen und gründlicher kontrolliert!"
3) "Ich nenne dich weiterhin bei deinem alten Namen, der ist soooo schön!" Und dann gleich dahinter ne Koseform, die mir ab der ersten Pause der Grundschule ständige hänselnd und lachend hinterher gerufen wurde.
Mein alter Name ist nicht schön. Er war es für mich nie! Mein alter Name ist einfach auf so vielen Ebenen falsch! Angefangen mit dem Geschlecht...
4) Diverse Mixturen und Abwandlungen aus 1) und 3)

Dann erzählste einer anderen Person davon...
"Es findet halt nicht jeder alles toll, das man macht."
Ich:"Das ist schon klar. Aber das Thema hat mit Respekt zu tun. Man muss nicht respektlos und ausfallend werden."
"Das kommt aber sehr häufig vor."
Ich:"Ich brech hier ab. Ich brauche keine weiteren Empathielosen heute."

Und ab da war Schluss! Ich muss mir echt nicht sagen lassen, dass mein neuer Name Scheiße, lächerlich, doof usw ist und der alte Name so viel besser. Erstrecht nicht auf versteckte Weise eine Art Täter-Opfer-Umkehr, indem man die Respektlosen in Schutz nimmt und mich hinstellt ala "Sei halt keine Mimose!" Diese Menschen wollen bewusst und mit Absicht nicht meinen neuen Namen benutzen. Vielen davon kann ich nicht ausweichen.

Was zum Geier ist nur los mit euch, die ihr so handelt? An neue Handys könnt ihr euch gewöhnen und an einen Namen nicht?

Mal ne Frage an Menschen, die vorhaben ihren #Vornamen zu ändern oder es bereits getan haben (unabhängig ob behördlich oder einfach im Freundes- und Bekanntenkreis).
Wie geht ihr damit um, wenn Menschen wiederholt euren #Deadname nutzen?

Ich bin aktuell dabei sämtlichen Menschen meinen Vornamen mitzuteilen, den ich für mich (non-binary) als richtig empfinde. Trotzdem gibt es Menschen, die dann sagen:"Ich nenn dich einfach weiterhin [Name]. Kann mich nicht umgewöhnen." Hab denen schon erklärt, dass das einfach nicht mein Name ist. "Ich kann mir das nicht merken!" Ok... Also fang ich auch an diesen Menschen andere Namen zu geben und auf meinen Deadname nicht zu reagieren. Was nicht schwer fällt...
Darunter sind halt Menschen, denen ich nicht ausm Weg gehen kann... Wär ja sonst zu einfach... Daher meine Frage: Wie geht ihr mit so was um?

I think that telling anyone your deadname places an unfair burden on them. I don't want to know anyone's deadname. As far as I'm concerned, it has nothing to do with them as they are now, just like my deadname does not in any way represent me. It never felt like my true name anyway. It always felt like a role I was playing. Like I'd somehow picked up the wrong lunch order at the canteen of names. There are sensitive, potentially damaging things that once shared, can't be taken back, and honestly, I would prefer to think of people only as they themselves feel most comfortable being called. Because you know a brain holds on to those kind of little trinkets. I would rather not burden myself nor anyone else with that kind of difficulty. And if anyone flat out asks? They don't understand what they're asking for. Like a child asking for a mousetrap to play with. Or a boulder to eat.

Today I learned that #slack saves a „username“ field for your account and doesn’t tell you ANYTHING about that. This lead to my #deadname being #leaked today.

So…
a #queer space I’m in is using Slack as a communication platform. Due to various concerns we wanted to switch to Matrix.

Our IT had put up a Slack-Matrix #bridge to ease the shift away from Slack.

Turns out this bridge was using a „username“ field that slack had previously depreciated in favor of display names.

As I had joined a Slack years ago before my #transition it must’ve created this username from my email back then, which contained my deadname.

When I transitioned I changed my email and the „Full name“ field on all the slack instances I was on.

I joined that queer Slack space after this and it must’ve just copied over that original username.

THE USERNAME FIELD WAS NOT SHOWN ANYWHERE. It was completely #hidden.

And now the Slack-Bridge had leaked my deadname via the username into our new Matrix space.

FOR ANYONE WHO WANTS TO CHANGE THIS NAME:

- Go to the slack web app (I couldn’t find it on mobile)

- Click on the profile picture on the bottom left and click on „Profile“

- Click on the tree dots next to „Set a status“ and „View as“

- Go to „Account Settings (external link)“

- Scroll all the way down (UNDER „Deactivate account“!?!)

- Click „expand“ on the „Username“ section

- Change your username and click „Save“

This is something that impresses me greatly about #MuhammadAli, that he was drafted, and, even though he could have used his celebrity status to stay safe, he used it to become a major face in the opposition of the #Vietnam war. The world got to see hearings with old white men calling a successful young black man "boy" repeatedly, chastising him as some sort of criminal for this simple act of not wanting to kill people for a country that didn't respect his rights.

It also affects the #transgender movement to this day that, despite him repeatedly asserting that his name was now Muhammad Ali, they kept referring to him by his #DeadName. Backlash to this set the tone for later rights of other people to go by different names.

So here's the thing. TERFs - that's an easy one. Usually vatnikoids these days, stuck in a 100+yo suffragette #feminism that was highly appropriate when there still was a Kaiser in Germany, but hasn't since, because it has achieved its main aim.
Deal with them as with any other reactionary (the "R" in #TERF means REACTIONARY. There is nothing "#radical" about these rank and usually decrepit boomer booj.) and you're set.

BUT: what about individuals who claim to be #trans with a vengeance, only to rant and rail against the "#woke #genderism #conspiracy", and who even promote the views of the most extreme breed of religious right fanatics who call consciously #queer people "animals" that ought to be "culled" etc?

It's not a numerically significant problem, but these few people do have a toxic impact at the boundary of queer communities and the so-called "normal" people that is utterly without proportion to their numbers. They are the "good trans" the trans-haters leverage against queers.

How does one confront them? I am always tempted to #deadname them (since it seems highly likely they are not trans at all, just batshit insane - "cosplaying as trans" if you will)... but THAT is a road that does not look like it could lead to anything good.
